Mark, if you have a park map (including the one on ReserveAmerica), just note that a couple of the loops back up to the gorge, and some of the sites in those loops are literally right on the edge of the gorge.
They're quite safe for responsible adults, but you may want to think about smaller children and those pets who have a tendancy to run off if they get loose. Just a safety thought, and nothing more.
The rest of the loops are all good. We've never had a bad site there.
You won't regret taking a full day to explore the park by car. It is very long and very narrow, but there are several museums within the park and many overlooks along the gorge. Hiking trails abound, and you can get information about the white water rafting at the visitor center. Also, take time to go visit the Mt. Morris Dam and Visitor Center at the north end of the park - that is separate from the Letchworth Park Visitor Center.
We try to get down there at least once a year, and usually during quiet periods (like not Labor Day or July 4th).
Enjoy!
