SC - Hunting Beach State Park

We've just arrived at Hunting Beach State Park near Beaufort, SC. A wonderful 200 site park with mostly wooded sites, About of 100 sites are within 50 yards of the beach. All have at least 30 amps and water, $25 a nite.

http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=e...UTF8&z=12&om=1

The above site will take you to a satellite view of the park, there is a satellite view available.

One of the neat things we've learned without little Sunline is that we just about always get our Dish tuned in even among big trees. The sites are usually so big that we can plug in to power in but not disconnect from the car and mover around until we get a strong signal.

The park is on an island about 30 miles Route 17, our preferred method of going south - no interstates and tons of great state parks all the way down from Deleware.

Sounds nice, so maybe we will check it out on our way down South as well. Better than Wally-Worlds, right?

South Carolina

South Carolina has a slew of beautiful state parks right on the beach. This is our third. We have also stayed at Myrtle Beach State Park and Huntington Beach State Park. AS well we have visited Edisto Beach State Park but have not stayed there. Henderson is just south of Myrtle Beach and out of the main stream of busy but interesting Myrtle. The three we've stayed at are right on the beach and SC has beautiful beaches.

They are convenient to us because we come dow RT 17 instead of I95, crossing the Chesapeake Bay Bridge. WE stayed at Lums State Park in Deleware on the way down but have also stayed at numerous State Parks in Maryland.

From here we're headed to Jekyll Islabnd in GA

RVing

If I had known about RVing when I was 40 and not 58, I would have quit 'traditional' working at 40. I don't know how but I would have followed the example of the Escapee founders and moved out of a house into an RV and traveled the continent doing something to make my way,

There is a peace in this lifestyle that is not to be found in the everyday world.

I live in Charleston, SC. I was fortunate enough to be transferred here by my company 15 years ago from Myrtle Beach and Atlanta and have now retired here. There are a number of county parks here and a couple of KOAs. James Island County Park has 124 TT sites and just a short drive to Charleston and several beautiful beaches: Isle of Palms, (homes of the rich and famous), Sullivan's Island, Folly Beach and Edisto Beach (State Park). Some of the parks here are water parks for adults and kids. The city of Charleston is beautifuk and full of history and the entire community welcomes tourist with open arms. Myrtle Beach is more of a young people's vacation spot while Charleston caters to a more mature tourist. I reccommend it very highly.

Charleston is easily among our favorite cities, probably the best walk around city in America. We love exploring every street. As well it has a number of excellent retuarants.

James Island has the best Christmas light display I have ever seen, well worth a visit.

I attended The Citadel (Class of '64) and Charleston was my first southern experience. Joe Reilly, a classmate of mine, has been mayor for an amazing 35 years, steering the city to grow and improve while maintaining the charm of its past.

Well worth a visit, we stop every year.

We will be at James Island County Park over the Christmas holidays! (provided we can get Tweety out of the driveway) It will be our 2nd visit during the light show. We find Charleston to be such an easy city to visit, and so beautiful, with lots to do. What a great place to retire
