NY- Cedar Point State Park

Cedar Point State Park
36661 Cedar Point State Park Drive
Clayton, NY 13624

Cedar Point SP is located right on the St. Lawrence River, about five miles west of the village of Clayton. The shipping channel passes in front of the park, so you can watch ships from around the world sail by. Bridge and a ferry are nearby, crossing over into Canada. Clayton and the nearby villages of Cape Vincent and Alexandria Bay are tourist friendly offering many venues of local history, shopping, stores and restaurants.

The park is open from mid May through Columbus Weekend. 55 electric sites, 33 full hookups and 84 tent sites. Many with a waterfront view. It has a sand beach, picnic areas, 2 picnic shelters, boat launching ramp, marina with gas, dock slips and supplies. A childrens play area that has a playhouse, slides and swings. Baseball field and volleyball court. There are bathrooms with flush toilets and showers (see about our stay).

This is our second visit to this park and we absolutley love it. Last year and this year, we went the weekend after Labor Day and stayed a week. Last year we had electric site E9, which is prime waterfront and next to the bathrooms. We made this reservation before we bought the Sunline and wanted to be next to them so Amy did not have to go far in the middle of the night. A mistake. The facilities were filthy and have not seen a coat of paint for several years and the cleanliness, well I would not go barefoot or touch the walls in the shower. So this year, we went with the full hookups (F27) so we could use the Sunline as much as we wanted. The park its self is beautiful with soft rolling hills throughout. Most sites are nestled in between Cedar and Oak trees. The site had a level gravel driveway, 30 amp service, water and sewer, fire pit and picnic table. Nice view of the river. Mostly snowbirds staying in the park that time of year, with families coming in for the weekends. Even though you are not supposed to, the squirrels and chipmunks managed to drain us of 12 pounds of peanuts in the shell. Very peaceful and quiet. Definitly returning next year.

We rate this park 4 out of 5 stars.

The cost for 7 nights, full hookups, was $190.00. Reservations were made through Reserve America.

Plenty of stores and restaurants within 20 miles. The big city of Watertown is about 35 miles away if you need a particular item.

Cell phone, I have ATT and was spotty. Occasionally pinging off a Canadian tower. Sorry, no Wi-Fi at the park but some shops in the villages offer it.

The area has a diverse mixing of classes. You will find everything from a 12 foot rowboat to 150 plus foot megayachts. There are services available from simple sandwich shops to high end resorts. We recommend going to Alex Bay and taking a boat tour around the islands. A 2 1/2 hour cruise for two was $33.00. Also trips available to two castles. The romantic Boldt Castle and Dark Castle on Singer Island ( once owned by Singer Sewing Machine founder). Many fancy cottages and villas once owned by the millionaires dating from the late 1800's through the early 1900's. Worth every penny.

Pets are allowed with the proper papers and a leash is required at all times.

Fishing is excellent in the river, ranging from pan fish to bass and muskies. Fishing charterboats are available in all the villages.
