PA - Sill's Family Campground - Adamstown, PA

We stayed at Sill's Family Campground, in Adamstown, this weekend (Memorial Day 2010).

We had decided at rather the last minute that we did want to go away for Memorial Day weekend and we had been on the waiting list for several campgrounds, Sill's contacted us and advised that they did have a spot for us.

Due to our late reservation, we did not have a pull through spot. Our spot was a back in spot, that appeared to have been primarily a seasonal spot before. It was a tight spot to get into, due to trees, but their staff escorted us to the site, and was very knowledgeable, and patient, to get us in the site. (this was only our 3rd time out with the trailer, too).

I would say the campground is about 80% seasonal, but the seasonal campers were friendly.

The sites are close to each other, but not horrible.

Frequently, there was a heavy septic smell, certain areas of the campground were worse then others.

Wireless internet is available, but neither of our laptops were able to actually view web pages with it (we have connected to plenty of other networks in hotels, restaurants, campgrounds, etc)

Cable TV was $2.50 per night.

There is a pool, it is a salt water pool (not bad, just different), water was cloudy on Sunday, made it harder to track the kids and make sure they were ok.

Staff was very pleasant and helpful.

There were activites for kids and adults. (hayrides, bingo, dances, flashlight candy hunt)

Couple of things that we noted, there are a lot of BIG dogs in the campground, they were all on leashes, but if you aren't a fan of big dogs you may want to be aware. The dogs included, Doberman, Mastiffs, Wolf-mix, etc. Campgound is noisy, there is road noise from the turn pike, but also a lot of people, kid and dog noise. Only one restroom with showers, and it was nasty hot and smell (septic smell as mentioned above).

We may camp there again, but I don't think it would be our first choice.

Hello Diane,
Thanks for the review of Sill Campground in Adamstown, PA. My wife and I have never been there but considered it. We have camped at several campgrounds in Berks County. We currently have a seasonal site this year at Mountain Springs in Shartlesville but are leaning towards not keeping it next year. Might try to purchase one of the Thousand Trails memberships. Some campgrounds that are nice that you may want to consider are Mountain Springs in Shartlesville, Oak Creek near Maple Grove, and Lake in Woods are just a few.

Doug, Sonia, and Kylee
