Personal Comments:

This is one of our favorite campgrounds in the Upper Peninsula. We have stayed here dozens of times and love it everytime. We normally canoe the Two Hearted River where you're sure to see Bald Eagles, Salmon running upstream if it's late fall and some of the best star gazing around.

You have to travel down miles of dirt roads to get to this area, and if you're into trail riding on motorcycles or fourwheelers, this is a great spot to use as base camp. They also have a boat launch to load your boat into Lake Superior. There is a cool suspension bridge to go from the campground over to the beach, and the local outfitter can shuttle you right from the campground up river. Canoeing back down, you'll end up right at your campsite!

If in the UP, this is a must see.

The wife and I went there on our honeymoon in late Sept 2006. Must have been the last year for $10 state forest campgrounds. I have to agree, it was a nice place. Miles and miles of mudhole dirt roads that are barely even on the map. Literally out in the middle of nowhere. Yet it was almost totally full when we went. Compare that to every other UP campground we visited that week was basically dead, so others must have really liked it too. The wind coming off Lake Superior howled all night like a blizzard. Very cold and had a hard time getting a fire going. But we really liked it. Nice sites, and nice footbridge. Boondocking at its best, you're on your own out there. Much better than an on-the-way campground where all the rowdy folks stay.
