Sunline 2499

We are looking for a 2499 in good condition. We were very interested in John B's but he has another buyer. A couple of questions: what to look for in older 2499's that could be potential issues and what specifically is wrong with the frames for years 2006 through 2007 on this model?

Thanks!

We actually looked at the one at Leo's and had some questions about it since the door handle at the outside bedroom door is broken and it appears to have some damage on the front right side and where the license plate attaches. The unit looks very clean inside so perhaps we will give it a second look. We'll also check out craigslist as that's one place we never think to look.

Hi Diane

Here are a few after a little digging.

2007 T2499. Cherry - By the price they are asking I’m assuming this was never titled. http://shadymaplerv.rvusa.com/2007-s...2499-PA-i19982

2005 T2499 Maple - This is suppose to be a Shady Maple RV as well but does not show up on there site or I missed it http://www.rvregistry.com/used-rv/17006.htm

2006 T2499 Maple - This one is in FL though http://www.automobilecontacts.com/rv...s.php?RID=3555

2004 T2499 Maple – This one I “think” you may have seen. They do not show the back in the pics. http://leosrv.rvusa.com/2004-sunline...499-MD-i122312

2001 T2499 Maple – This one is in NY. However that year is wrong or the pics are. I can tell by the inside this sure looks like a 2004. I thought the T2499 only came out in 2003. This one may be a good look at one. The decals look great so it may have been stored inside. I’m almost sure this is a 2004. The add may be a typo. There are just too many 2004 feartures in it. And lack of 2005 features and none of the 2003 features.
http://www.campingworldofrochester.c...sunline/118286

2007 T2499 – Cherry in FL Nice looking coach – Camper Corner RV
http://thecamperscornerrv.com The link to it directly will not fire from SOC. It is there vechile ID 284. Go to, Towables, travel Trailers then on page 2 about 1/2 way down it shoes up

You asked about the A frames. In 2005 Sunline changed the main frames and the A frame of the 7,000# GVWR TT’s. The heavy tongue weight ones did show up with some issues of bending the frame header. By semi mid year 2007 they figured out a fix that held. If you are looking at a 2005 to 2007 let us know and we can show you what to look for. The header may already be fixed, it is not yet bent and easier to fix, or is has the start of the problem. SOC members have had them repaired, some ranging from $300 to around $1200 depending on how advanced the issue was. Once the problem is corrected and right, it should give good service. We have several members now using there 2005 to 2007 once fixed without repeat issues.

The 2003 and 2004 T2499 where built on the older heavier frame and I know from mine, they can handle a 1,200# tongue with WD and not have any issues. The A frame strength is many times stronger.

Hope this helps

John

I agree with John, that "01"in New York is an "04" by the interior color. The 2499 came out in the fall of '03 as a 2004 model.

We're trying to find you one, Diane

This kind of response is what I LOVE about this list!!

We will be checking out all the units and there is supposed to be a 2007 at Stoltzfus in Adamstown that Marshall will be calling about today. I think the 2499 is a great layout for us and the poodles.

Hi Diane,

I agree with the others that the supposed '01 in New York is a '04. Maybe that could work to your advantage if they lower the price down there, or until they realize the title says 2004.

The one at Shady Maple RV has been there a while. I could look up for you if you'd like when it was brought in there, but it isn't brand new. Shady Maple RV was never a Sunline dealer. However, I've heard quite a few former Sunline employees work there now, so I suppose maybe one of them has it there or a friend of one of them brought it in. I think the price just reflects the lack of updating. For a little while (two years maybe) after Sunline went out, blue book prices on used ones were around what people were buying new leftover ones for at invoice cost. If I were crazy enough, I could have brought mine home and sold it for more than I paid for it.

To the best of my knowledge, it is probably # 7077. I've never been able to confirm stock numbers with the actual coaches there. If that is the case though, this would be just before the redesign like Pat & Cindy have. With this coach having such little apparent use, chances are that the header is still OK and at this point it would be cheaper to just have it reinforced than to have it straightened or replaced. Interestingly, assuming it is 7077, Larry (clarkldc)'s coach is the exact next one after, and he's had quite a few frame issues prior to the fix, so a reinforcement on that coach would be pretty important.

The '05 at Shady Maple I doubt is still there. They seem to update their website somewhat regularly. While there is a chance it's just that new, I doubt they'd put it up at a third party site before their own. I suspect it's gone and for most of these third parties they just let the ads expire because they probably figure they'll get people to call and then try to get them in something else.

The one at Stoltzfus I think was jeepdriver03's. He has a classified in the FS forum. He is from right there in Adamstown and was looking for a new one, so I suspect he just traded it. I requested the picture package and the interior and wood match. Here's his ad: http://www.sunlineclub.com/forums/ph...pic.php?t=3594

The '07 in FL interests me the most. I guess it's just because we share interior colors & wood. But, I can certainly tell it is a later one. If you could, call on it and find out the VIN or the last four of it. This will determine if it has the redesign or not.

Also, here's another '07 in ME. It more than likely has the redesign: http://www.seacoastrv.com/RV_Stock.a...k_listings.asp The link to the details does not work so you'll just have to scroll down to the first used towable. If only this one didn't work I'd say they don't have it, but none of them seem to be. Apparently when I got it before, 2/27/09, I noted it as a Tropical Magic/Maple combo, like the one at Stoltzfus.

I don't know the exact time of the frame change, but I'm guessing it was somewhere around 7300. It may be a little earlier, but I just don't have the data to convince me otherwise. I only know of one 2499 in the 7200 range, and it was at a dealer and I don't know much about it. There was a run of 2499's just after your 1950 was built, which includes Leo & Kathy's, but they did have some reinforcing done.

I did do my Craigslist run last on 1/18/10, and there were no 2499's that I picked up then. That doesn't mean that a few haven't come in recently or were there before and I had already got them. I do remember jeepdriver03 had a few CL ads on for his, but they're probably gone now.

Jon

Hi Diane,
Stoltzfus has one. If you give them a call ask for Lee. He's very honest and great to work with. If he says it's in mint condition you can believe it is. They are 3 miles from my house and I'd be happy to take a look at it for you.

Diane

This may help. See this picture from EMAM’s camper. A 2007. KathH here has this same fix as well. This last design worked. If your going to look at that 07 and Marshall wants to talk, let me know we can connect on what to look for.

Here is KathyH’s. If you click the pic I think they get bigger.

If the camper is the prior generation it can be fixed and Stoltzfus may be able to help get it done. There has been one other forum member here that had his T2499 fixed that Stoltzfus had helped.

Here is the header thread.
http://www.sunlineclub.com/forums/ph...r=asc&start=30

I myself would not let the header stop me from buying a great coach. I know if can be fixed. If your buying it from a dealer, see if they will warrent it. Depending on who they are, they may not even know of the problem. But Stoltzfus should.

Good luck

John

Marshall called and spoke to Lee this AM. The 2499 is on consignment now but is being traded to Stoltzfus if not sold soon. I will try to get the VIN so we can know if it has the "fix" already done. Lee is going to work up some numbers for us.

I remember seeing the FS from jeepdriver03 but we weren't in the market when he posted.

Pam, if you want to check it out, please do that and let us know what you think!

I'll try to get the VIN on the one in FL as well as check out the others listed.

Thanks again!!

We are buying the unit at Stoltzfus!!! Last 4 digits of the VIN: 7435. Lee says he thinks it is one of the last 2499's built. And we are trading our 1950 as well!!!! Settlement is February 6.

JohnB, if you can think of any things to look for, let us know.

The Expedition will probably get load levelers now. LOL

Looks like we might need to get another site for Buttonwood as site 87 is small. Perhaps Kitty's old one, site 88, would be a great place!!

THANKS, MANY THANKS, to all of you who replied with leads and encouragement. Kitty and JohnB were especially patient in answering questions.

Diane:

We had our 276Sr in Site 87 in 2008, a little tight to get in, but it fit with enough room to park a vehicle in front of it. A 2499 won't be any problem.

Hey Pam,

Yeah it was fast but we knew we wanted a 2499 so we decided to go for it.

We had been shopping lots of other TT's such as Ever-Lite, Heartland, Cherokee, View Finder, and on and on. The Heartland North Trail has some nice layouts but they are 30-32 feet. Way too long for us to tow with any comfort factor. We saw the Ever-Lite 31RLS (again 32 feet) which was a very nice unit. But none of them had the appeal of the Sunline.

If you want to ride by and take a look, go ahead in case you see something that alarms you. I was pretty certain that if Lee said it is in mint condition, it is.

Congrats Diane! It should already have the redesign too!

7435 was very late. Highest that I know of is 7479, though they did build on a few random frames after that before closing down.

Yours is the highest production number 2499 I know of now !!!

Rob & Kathy's is just a few before, so you should see similarities in the frames.

Jon

[color=blue]Diane & Marshall,

CONGRATS on your new Sunline. Boy I bet Feb. 6th can't get here fast enough. That color interior is so very rich looking. Hopefully the Sunline binder will be with it. I think you will like Lee, and you should have a very pleasant experience purchasing from him. HA, tell him if he don't treat you well, I'll have to straighten him out I am so happy for you.

February 6 can't arrive soon enough! We will clean out the 1950 this weekend and get ready to roll on the 6th. Our 1950 has the cherry cabinets but the same fabric as the 2499.

We are delighted to find this unit.

Tweety comes thru once again!!!!! I think she may take the lead in finding Sunlines for folks…. I lost count. How many does this make Pam?

Although this one took a little longer, She posted back on ours a whopping 6 minutes after I posted on wanting our T310SR. And 5 days later we owned it Here she took a little over 24 hours and now maybe it’s a done deal…

I sense a trend is forming…. Us SOC members stick together
