1983 T-1550, Mansfield, MA, $1000

I have a 1983 T1550 in decent shape that I am thinking of selling. It's too big to tow behind the Jeep. ( I am thinking of making a homemade teardrop for that) Anyway - is there any interest in these older models? I have no idea how much to ask and I'm a little leery of putting it out on E-bay - too many scammers in the world, plus if I don't know what to expect to get for it I can't put a reserve on it...kind of a catch 22.

Hi, I just bought an '86 1550 for $500 with a gob of camping gear. It's really clean, but no air con and a cracked black water tank.

I saw the same model for sale on ebay that was bid up to 1500 or so, but it's not in the completed listings so something may be something was not on the up and up.

Personally, I think it should be worth at least $1500 if in good clean shape and nothing is broken.

Your Jeep should be able to tow this. I'm pulling it with a Volvo 240, no problems.

I can move it with the Jeep, but I wouldn't want to get over 10MPH with it back there. The combination of short wheelbase, low weight (from not having a roof) and higher center of gravity make the Jeep a poor tow vehicle. The 1550 is 3 feet taller 2.5 feet wider and twice as long as the little TJ, it's very scary looking in the rear view and seeing the trailer is almost close enough to touch when you turn around to back up.

Yep, Jeeps is short things. About the same power and weight as the 240, but much smaller. We have a friend with one that sometimes puts it in our garage where the volvo lives. The garage seems half empty with it in there. It's a lot of fun, tho...

Opie, is this still for sale? Sorry to hear you need to get it gone.

If someone wants to buy it but need it delivered (somewhat locally), feel free to refer them to me.

Hopefully it'll go to someone in RI, VT, or NH so they can join us in Mexico next June and help the New Englanders have a good showing.

Sorry - been gone for a while with other projects....anyway, I don't need it gone just yet. I'm torn about letting it go. If I get an offer around $1000, I'll think about it, but i probably won't really try to sell her until spring.
