1980 Sunspot for sale in PA
Found on Craigslist for Erie, PA a 1980 Sunspot camper, listed as Mini Sunline. See the ad at 1980 Sunline Mini Camper it was posted 29 June. Talked with the owner Glen yesterday at 814-833-0658 at length. He's only had it 30 days, camped in it once. Options which it originally came with, but are no longer installed or available are - sink & hand pump, 2 burner cooktop, gas lines, gas tank, table (still has socket in floor), side awning, rear awning (the awning roof edge mounts are still installed front and back). Following were available as options but which are not on the trailer are icebox/refrigerator, gray water tank, battery box and 12V wiring. Trailer has front window rock guard, tires are 14", spare tire mounted underbelly, 2" hitch, folding mattress cushions, window drapes, two tubes mounted underbelly for awnings & poles. No manual or other papers. He has PA title which does not have a 17 digit VIN, has 7 digits, maybe state assigned, or maybe is old school serial number before the 17 digit VIN? His ad says "no inspection" meaning a trailer this small in PA needs no annual inspection. I believe he does have some wiggle room on the price. He seems to want to get close to what he paid back for it.

It's painful to look at that awful paint scheme left over from the 1970's (not the original paint scheme; rather, the pink door and rock guard). It's a sin that people would gut a well designed little camper like a Sunspot. If you can get it cheap and have access to a "parts trailer," it would make a nice project for a very ambitious - and talented - person.

I did call the fellow back on this, told him I didn't want his Sunspot. Basically just finished a 95% rerstore of my 84" F-1850, didn't need another project for a long while. So, it's up for grabs!

Yes, the early Sunline VIN's were not 17 digits. They were five, six, and in some rare cases, seven digits long for units up through the beginning of the 1980 model year. About half way through the 1980 model year, they adopted the new government regulations for 17 digit VINs.
Did you by chance get the seven digit VIN? That would confirm the year and tell me if I've seen it before. I seem to recognize the odd painting a little and I do remember one with a plastic tote bin for a generator cover. If it's what I suspect, it's 4139780.
