Repost of new member

Hi I think I need to introduce myself again. My name is PETE and my wife is Coralee. We joined in May and not sure how things work on here. Could not figure out how to reply to welcome message. We bought a Sunline 1994 sunline Solaris T2670. We are having problems with our water heater. We replaced the thermostat and thermocoupler. It heats the hot water but the pilot lite goes out after it heats the hot water. Any help would be appreciated.

Welcome to the SOC Pete and Coralee! You have come to the right spot to have your questions answered..very friendly helpful group here! One of our more informed "water heater" guys will be along to answer I am sure. In the meantime, have you cleaned out, blown out or otherwise made sure you have no little spiders or other varmints in the venturi tube which supplies the propane to the pilot and burner? That would be the place to start.. If you don't feel secure about removing it for cleaning, I have always kept a straw from sodas or shakes in my toolbox just for this purpose. Just dont insert the straw while the tube is hot of course! Lol! I also have a very thin brush that I have used when I have removed the tubes for cleaning. Hope this helps..Janalee (also from PA, near Scranton)

P.S.to post a reply you can select QUOTE in your message and a new box will pop up..or,underneath a message box is a "POST REPLY"..

Thank you for replying. This is Coralee. Pete did check all of the things you suggested. I thought he had replaced the thermostat but he only replaced the thermocoupler. We think we will have to replace the thermostat.

Just a shot in the dark here--are you sure you have a pilot light! Is it possibly an electronic ignition water heater by any chance? Do you actually light the pilot light to start it up or possibly push a button inside? As I see it, a faulty thermostat shouldnt have anything to do with it,but I could be wrong.
Dont know why the others havent checked in here on this--they must all be out camping..lol!

You said after the water is heated the pilot goes out. So my understanding is it stays on the first time and then goes out when the water heater stops firing? Your answer will help with tracing the problem.
