Our first camper

Hello, our family decided to purchase a 1987 t-1550 sunline as our first camper. I grew up camping as a scout but never in a a camper so we decided to get this one as a first and upsize as our needs do. We look forward to learning from experienced owners and taking in the many locations available to our family.

Thanks, I found an interesting rebuild on a saturn but it says the photobucket pics were relocated or removed. Was there any way to access previous pics?

Depends. If the picture was moved and the photobucket is public, then yes, you could probably go find them. If they were deleted or moved to a private album, then no.

Congrats on your new trailer!

Welcome Marty, Vickie. I have a '92 T-1550. Let me know what I can help you with. I tow mine with a F-150, your 350 should pull that thing around like a rag doll.

Thanks Sanstini, I just discovered what a little water leak can do to the wood framing in the walls. We'll see how this repair goes!

Marty & Vicky,

Welcome to SOC, the best group to belong to. I doubt there is anything that you want or need to know about your Sunline that someone on this site won't be able to help you with.

Where are you located in Virginia, we are just across the VA/WV border of I-81 in WVA.

You mentioned some minor wood rot, this is the site to get help with that, as many of us have gone thru wood rot repair. Best thing is to take/post pictures of the problem area, and see what replys you get. Depending on where you live, you might even be able to get some help with the repair "if" needed/wanted.

There is a wealth of info on this site, so browse around and don't be afraid to ask any questions you might have. Help is only a few keystrokes away.

Kitty

I have a little experience repairing wood rot and I highly recommend 'The Rot Doctors' ( Wood preservation, rot repair, and restoration using epoxy resin on boats and homes. ) products. Pretty pricey but they work well. Like KanyonKitty says, pics really help to show what the problems are, but lots of 'splaining helps too. Last but not least, don't get discouraged, most of us have been there to get through repairs and patience really helps, as well as realizing and enjoying the results.

Thanks Kitty and Scott, I'll look into them, I was thinking I was going to end up tig welding a new wall frame and end up replacing parts of the interior paneling. I'll post up some pics this weekend, Kitty , we're in Hampton which is about 2 hours from the outer banks, north carolina. So far this summer, we took the kids to a yogi bear park in Gloucester Va. and an Americamp in Richmond for the state fair and wow, there are some HUGE campers and rv's! Kinda feels like showing up at the yacht club in a dinghy but we're having fun!

Sounds like some serious repair work but also sounds like you know what you're doing. Hope it goes well for ya. I know the feeling of being the small camper on the block but then I see the tenters and remember what those times were like. Having fun is key though. Have a great year.

I've found that the small campers are becoming popular again. Showing up with a F350 and a 15' trailer might cause some comments and good natured chuckling however.

It probably doesn't help having some lift on the truck with a 150hp exhaust, egr, and tuner upgrades but man the 0-60 times my t-1550 are just awesome! Seriously, We frequent the obx where you can drive on the beach which is why we have 35" tires but they are on a 22x11" wheel which gives us alot less sidewall for decreased tow sway and a wide all-terrain tire gives a large contact patch with no road noise(nitto terra grapplers) our current set-up seems to work great!
