Our first! 87 22ft. Sunline Satellite

Hi! Glad I found this site! we just picked it up today...inside in really nice condition other than needing a good scrubbing (done!) but outside..well.. she looks old and kinda dull... what is the best way to give her some shine? I'm not shy to buffing her or whatever is recommended... Our first trip will be to Otter Lake in PA in Mid October with another 2 families! Can't wait... Thanks! Kathy and Wayne

HI Kathy & Wayne,

Congrats on your Sunline purchase and welcome to the group. Sounds like you jumped right into getting it ready for use. As for the siding, DO NOT take a buffer to it or you WILL remove all the COLOR !! Since it's a weekend most of the "techy" guys are out camping, so probably tonight or tomorrow they will post some helpful hints to restore the color. I had a 1986 and for the life of me I can't remember what I used on it.

Also, please check out the Sunline registry that Sunline Fan has and consider giving him the info about your rig.

Any questions/issues you might have, just post them here and it shouldn't take long for you to get some replies.

Kitty

Thanks Kitty!,

I'll just wash the outside for now...what do you recommend? I got the inside all nice and clean and will be loading my kitchen/bath/sleeping stuff all in! I'm soo excited! What do you recommend for outside washing?

Kathy,

I just used to use whatever car wash I had on hand at the time for the 1986. But now, I think I would choose one of the products offered by Aero 303, it's really good stuff.

303 Products - Aerospace Protectant, High Tech Fabric Guard -* World's Leading Automotive Care Products

Hi Kathy and Wayne

Welcome to Sunline Owners club and congrats on your new coach!

Cleaning the outside. I myself do not know the 1987 siding/finish. I’m thinking it is painted aluminum. One of our older camper folks can help here.

On my 2004 unit, it has painted aluminum only is small places. The rest has a coating on the aluminum to help it shine once washed. I do know to get just the dirt off, car wash cleaner will work. However if you have black streaks it may not touch them.

For black streaks I use a product called Awesome and a Mr Clean Magic eraser. Wet the side of the camper with a hose like washing a car, spray on the Awesome and then use the Magic Eraser. Then rinse it off soon. Do not let it dry on or sit on the camper concentrated for a long time. Do small sections and keep moving. Leaving some of these cleaners on too long can soften and wash away the paint and it will look silver under it.

The shine, well good question on how to get the shine back. We had a new member here not to long ago who was a car detailer and he got his older TT looking very good again. I don’t know his tricks and hopefully he will post to show up how to get some of the dull and oxidized siding back to life.

Happy camping

John

John, yes indeed the siding is plain painted aluminum, which is probably pretty chalky now. Get some good quality polish like you'd use on a car and with some elbow grease to remove all that oxidation, it should look like new again.

Honestly, I like the non-Krystal Kote better, I think it's easier to clean for those of us who like to clean all the time. For those who never want to wash it in ten years, it does help make it not look so bad. I'll admit when it's clean though, the krystal koat does just glisten in the sun...

Kathy, I just purchased an 88 star ray and the color was faded, I have it looking like new now , used a product purchased at an auto parts dealer
Gel Wax or Jel Paste, worked great, got it at advanced auto.

Hi,
Thanks for all of your tips and hints.. the Gel Wax or Jel Paste.. is that the stuff in the pink can or spray bottle? I use that for my fiberglass shower in the house, my sister showed me that.. her 25 year old shower looks new, wonder if it will help this old trailer... I'm going to look for that stuff.. thanks again..
