Old Sunline Owner

Been lurking here for some time so I decided to join.

My wife and I bought our 22 footer (2250 perhaps?) new in 1990. It was a 25th anniversary of Sunline as I recall. One of those bunkhouse types. It has been all over the country. After the kids grew up, our jobs and life got crazy and we haven't traveled in it for 4-5 years. I do stay in it when hunting. I noticed last fall that the floor is rotted in the front and in the bathroom back so it is going to need some fixing.

My wife and I are now retired and have taken care of some medical issues and are anxious to get back on the road. We have been looking at new trailers but they all seem so huge, heavy and expensive. In that I am going to fix the Sunline anyway ( I don't have the heart to scrap an otherwise excellent trailer) I thought I would simply remodel it to fit our needs.

Our Sunline has a dinette in the front that makes a bed, a pull out couch in the middle that makes a bed and a pair of bunks in the back. The remodel would involve making the front dinette a permanent bed (momma wants a real bed) removing the pull out couch and making that area a dinette and pulling out the bunks. The bathroom is in the back anyway so it would be nice to have a larger bathroom across the back and use the remaining bunk space for storage/closet etc.

I am going to have to tear out the floor in the front and in the bathroom anyway so I may as well rebuild as needed.

Big job I know. Plan to start on it in May. (Hopefully the snow will be gone by them, LOL). I did rebuild our first trailer, an old 1972 Holiday Traveler so I have an idea of what I'm up against. Of course that was over 25 years ago so we'll see if I can still do it.

Welcome! Glad to hear you'll be bringing new life to your Sunline. You'll probably find it's built much like your HR, but Sunline screwed everything together from the outside. That means you might have to remove the outside tin in order to remove some cabinets. Working on the floor corners is much easier with the outside lower aluminum strip off.

Hi mac66,

Welcome to the SOC. My wife Nancy and I bought a new T-2251 in 1992. We owned it for 20 years and enjoyed it very much. Two years ago we traded it on a T-2553. We like the 2553 a lot, but still miss the openness of the 2251. But, we also like the bed in the 2553. It's a lot nicer than having to make up a bed every night. I'm sure you and your wife will enjoy a permanent bed where the dinette at the front was located. We sometimes just kept the dinette made up as a bed. Since the furnace thermostat was within reach, when we used the dinette for our bed, it was especially nice on cold mornings, to just reach over and turn the heat up. Good luck on your repairs and mods. And, continue to enjoy your Sunline.

Again, welcome to the bunch.
