Newbie, looking for pointers

Hi Everybody,

We have our eye on a mid 90's Solaris 2653. Nice shape and will shine with a bit of elbow grease.

Would like to hear feedback on the specific model and if there are any special items to review.

Trailer was a fulltime home for somebody the last two years. Pros/cons?
Think since it was sitting the hubs and brakes will require extra care?

Had a leak in the rear above bed, was repaired and I did not see any damage other than ceiling tile has a ripple. Wood around tanks looks solid. Also we just had 4 days of rain and the trailer was bone dry inside.

Any experienced feedback is appreciated. thanks!

Well it looks like my offer was accepted, going for the final walkthru later this week.

It will be hooked up to a camping site and I will get to test electric, water, tanks, etc.

Any ideas for things to check out? I am new at this, thanks.

Hi Markbrit and welcome to the site and your new to you Sunline. as far as what to look for is soft floors or walls around that leak, check the applances Fridge, microwave, tires for sure espaically if it was sitting for a while they tend to dry rott check all of the caulking around the windows and roof lines around the vents on the roof and like you mentioned the wheel bearings and brakes if you are going to be towing it , good luck with it I am sure you will be happy Sunline made great coaches the are well made Dan

Well we did it! We bought a 1997 Solaris 2653. It is home in the driveway ready for a scrub and interior steam clean. This is gonna be fun!

Hi Mark,

Congrats on your new coach.

I have a special feeling for '97 2653's...we started out with an early production '97 that we had for five years. It had the Mountain Green Floral interior. There really aren't that many around- I looked for pics of one for 2-3 years and some have recently just started coming up for sale, but the pics with the ads haven't been very good at all. I've yet to see another early one though...

I'd love to see pics if you get a chance before you start cleaning!

Like Dan said, when you do clean, watch the roof. You may want to inspect the seams real good before washing to make sure there's no cracks in the sealant first. You wouldn't want to put a lot of water up there if there's a potential leak. That would make matters a lot worse.

To clean a lot of the dirt off the outside, I'd recommend Awesome. You can get it at about just any dollar store. You'll probably need three or four bottles, if not more, to do the whole trailer.

Jon

Spent the day scrubbing inside and out.

Roof was solid after we just had a week of rain so I scrub off a lot of gook with spic and span and a squeeze sponge mop. Saw where the patches were for the roof and will have more questions later.

Washed the side of the camper with regular car soap.

Inside we hit every surface with Fantastik and steam cleaned rugs and uphostory. Wow the nasty water we collected!

Past owner was a smoker so we think we got that stink on the run now!

Jon here is a pic after I washed the outside, will share more but I am wipped today

I looked at the vin plate and it was built in December 1996 it does have green drapes but not sure which interior it is. Will look at the pdf of the sales brochure.

The pictures in the brochure aren't that good. Here's some better ones:

Mountain Green Floral:

Leaf Green:

Based on that build date and the build runs at the time, I'd guess it's around production number 5550.

I think we have the leaf green interior. After I put my son to bed I will continue my story regarding towing setup.
