Newbie - Looking at a 13.5 ft Sunline

Have a friend of a friend that has this Sunline 13.5 ft Trailer. He says it is a 1974. Only has a tag and receipt for tag. The door is on back passenger side with dinette at front window, kitchen at back and wet bath on driver side back. I cannot find brochures or plans for this year so I suspect it is the wrong year. My friend is going to go look it over with photos in a few days. It has a roof ac as well. Can anyone tell me where to look for the Vin? I am hoping not having too much difficulty bringing it to Mississippi from Alabama to get tags/registration. Hope Someone can help shed light on this model for me. Thanks for letting me join and any info you can provide! Rennie

Hello and welcome Rennie!

I looked through the files and the first brochure I see that has a 13 1/2 (13 1/2 RD) is 1979. It will be helpful if you can post some pics. There are members that can just look at a Sunline and tell you the model and year.

As far as the VIN. I am not sure of the 70s but I have a 1987 and the VIN is on the A-frame on the driver side and under the sill plate of the entry door.

Happy camping!

I am now the new owner of this trailer. Haven't picked it up yet. Has some bathroom ceiling water damage. My friend who looked at it for me said she has someone in the town there that could possible repair that part for me. Also had a water leak in water lines that has not been nailed down yet. But I am thinking it could be an 1981 because that was written on the fresh water tank. There was also a paper sheet with a serial number on it. Can anyone give me more details? I am uploading two more photos. Thanks!

Hi Rennie,

As I mentioned on Facebook, this is a 1981 13 1/2' RD. The off door side picture helped confirm that here, in addition to the date on the water tank. Hope all goes well with getting it registered and fixed up.

Aside from the A/C, taillights, and awning, it looks pretty original, even down to the hubcaps!

Smile Congrats

Rennie, CONGRATS,, What ever you paid for the Small , you have a great investment.. If my prior posts can be viewed , I had a 79 ,, 15 foot..On the front frame nose on the SIDE near crank jack one should view those Four digits, 6863 along with a LETTER in front... May need a wire brush for any rust or newer paint .? Possible in 81 the industry went to the 13 digit VIN, ?

Hi Rennie
We had a 1985 13.5 Sunlinetrailer that looked almost the same. I'm sure through the years there were subtle differences. Ours was in excellent condition. I only had a few minor repairs to do. I often wondered where or not I need a weight distribution system A trailer hitch install dealer said that I did not need one, but looking back I think a weight distribution system would have stabilized my towing more than it did. I had a sway bar and it did help a bit, but not enough. You'll love the trailer.

Just as a preventative measure, I removed the windows and re-caulked all the windows. Since you're the new owner it's called starting fresh.
I also removed the factory light and replaced with all LED. Make sure your tires, bearings and brakes are in good shape

Enjoy, we miss ours

Thank you Split and JerryJ! I am excited to get her home! We were lucky to get the SN and the long 17 digit VIN. The bathroom is going to be the first order of ceiling repair where a roof leak use to be. Next, is to identify a water hose leak location and repair. Hopefully the Windows seals will hold out until we can see if the other systems work properly, like the water heater, fridge, sewer. Not worried about the oven other than the gas line to it. Also need work on clearance and tail lights. Any idea of a close to original source for outside lighting?

Both are still available! Clearance lights are Bargman #99 series, and the taillight replacement now is a Peterson V25912 and V25913

Is one part for left and other part no. For right turn light? Yes, a newbie question, lol. But I am really good at looking things up, researching and learning myself to do things. Just anxious to get it home so I can get working on other deficits.

Yes, the one tail light with the license plate bracket goes on the left, and the one without goes on the right. The one with the bracket also has a clear part on the bottom of the lens to light up the plate. The taillights that are on there are a huge concern- the hole where the wires go through was left wide open for water to get in. Those are the wrong style lights. I would highly recommend replacing with the ones linked above.

As far as the clearance lights go, you'll need four amber and seven red. All amber clearance lights go forward of the axle (one on the front of each side wall, two on the front wall), and the seven red go behind the axle (one at the rear of each side wall and five along the back).
