New with questions

Hi, my father just got an 83 sunline that he says is about 20 feet long with duel axles. He gave me a vin number of 1LC251J23DP212709

He would like me to look up and explain the electrical system to him, but I have not been able to find a place to decode the vin number. I downloaded the 83 brochures from the file section and am sending them to him to see if he can identify it that way.

Any help with the vin would be appreciated.

Byron from Maine

Hi Byron,

A little correction to the VIN: 1LC2S1J23DD212709.

That is correct for a 1983, and it'll be one of the T-2100 series floorplans, depending on the configuration option of the rear half. It's about 21' long, so the estimate is pretty close.

What type of help do you need on electrical? 120 shore power for 12v on board power?

Thank you,

I will have him look closer at the VIN. I am guessing from what he told me that it is the T-2103.

I think he mainly is looking at getting the 120 shore power working.

Byron

Hi Byron,

The 120 is a lot like your house in how it works. The cord that comes out the side of the trailer has three prongs, and is 30 amp for RVs. Almost all campgrounds will have this plug to plug into.

If you want to plug it into your house and don't want to have a 30 amp plug wired in, you can buy an adapter to plug into a regular 15/20 amp household outlet. The only thing is, when you plug in with the adapter, you can't run air conditioning or really a microwave, as those will draw a lot of power on an already taxed circuit.

It's important to note that a lot of items in the trailer are only 12V DC. All the interior lights, the water pump, bathroom exhaust fan, kitchen exhaust fan, refrigerator ignition, etc. are all 12V. These items only run off the battery, and then the built in charger in the trailer will keep the battery charged when the 120 30 amp cord is plugged in, via something called a converter. The converter's charging output is enough to run a few lights without a battery, but it's not a good practice since it puts a lot of stress on the converter.

If things aren't working as described above with the trailer plugged in, unplug it and let us know here so we can try to diagnose it.
