New Sunline Owner

Hey everyone,
We just bought a 1993 Sunline Solaris 2970. We camped almost every weekend for many years, but with 3 kids we had to slow down (ball teams, school stuff, etc.). Only one left at home now, so we wanted to get back into camping. We found this one at what we felt was a great price, its in really good shape, better than any we had before.
I have one question that maybe someone can help me with. Our unit has the Magnetek Series 6300 A Model 6336 power converter. When we hook it to 120V after about 2-3 minutes the cooling fan in the converter comes on and runs continuously. Is this normal? Or should it cycle on and off.

Welcome Tarheelcamp

Congrats on your new coach! And welcome to Sunline Owners Club. Looking forward to seeing and hearing about your Sunline adventures. Oh yes we like pics..... Those Sunline in action are great!!

About your converter fans, I do not know 100% on your model however many of the older units (yours is in that year range) where not smart about fan control. It may well run most all the time once the units heats up a little and only be one speed.

Some of the newer units now have variable speed fans that work with the heat of the converter. More amp draw = more fan speed and many have such a large heat sink on them they do not run much.

Someone who has one like yours may chime in with an exact answer.

Hope this helps and happy camping

John

I've heard some of these Magneteks do run loud while others run quiet. I never had a loud one, but I know someone with a '93 2251 and it ran loud all the time. Not sure if that's necessarily a problem or not, they don't use it much anymore and I don't know if it has died. Certainly annoying though...

Thanks for the welcome and the help

Thanks for the help on the fan. I noticed today that with the lower temperatures here in Western NC the fan did cycle on and off. Also it did not seem quite as loud, may just be getting use to it. I talked with the previous owner and he said they had not used the camper since 2009, so I may have a few bugs to work out. At this time this is the only issue we have found which speaks to the quality of the Sunlines.

Thanks again.
