New Member, Just purchased 1979 Sunline fixer upper

Hello, I am a new member to the site and we recently purchased our first camper to fix up. It is a 1979 Sunline ( not sure if it has a sub model or not ) and it will need some work. Floor seems to be solid and it has had some water damage. We are looking to redo the walls and ceilings, and use vinyl planks for the floor. We are looking to remove the toilet and debating removing the stove as well. Has anyone had anything similar they have done work to or any knowledge of this model? It seems to be some what rare. ( pic attached )

Thanks!

Personal I would never remove the toilet or the shower. Stove/oven yeah replace it with a counter top.

Hi WillHub,

Welcome to the club and congrats on your new Sunny!

Since you know your camper is a 1979 camper, you can back into the model from the floor plans of camper in the 79 sales brochure we have in our FILES section.

To get to the files section, you need to be logged into the forum.
At the top of the forum are tabs, look for the word "FILES" click it.

Once into the files section, scroll down to the "Sunline Brochures" section. Go in there and find a sale brochure for the year camper you are looking at and down load a copy.

I looked quick, and it is hard to tell from only the one door side pic. For a 79 camper to have 3 windows on the door side seems to indicate is might be 17 1/2 SB or a 19 1/2 SB, but you only have 1 axle. Those 2 models point to a tandem axle and yours is single axle. The other odds part, the 79 brochure has what looks like your 3 side window camper in a single axle on page 1 of the brochure, just no model seems to match any of the floor plans and specs of the weight ratings. If you know the length from the tow ball coupler to the back bumper, that helps hone in on a model as well. Or post pics of the other 3 sides of the camper.

SunlineFan is our older camper guru and he may be able to sort this out.

Hope this helps,

John

Hi, when you saw you want to use vinyl "planks" for the floor, do you mean recycled plastic like Trex decking in place of the wood floor? Like this, https://www.trex.com/

Or are you referring to laminate flooring over top of the old wood floor, something like this? https://www.homedepot.com/s/laminte%2520flooring?NCNI-5

I think that is the next size up from mine, and with mine being smaller, the situation with the stove, sink, and bathroom is even worse. The previous owners completely redid the bathroom and shower. I have never used it in 6 years. The trailer is just too small, I'm not taking a chance with black water, and we actually tried just making a pot of coffee on the stove once, and the steam soaked everything in the trailer. Its just not worth it. Instead we made a table top that mounts just outside the door and set up a propane stove there. We also carry a big picnic table umbrella and set it up so the stove and door to the trailer are out of the rain. Its one step further, and all the mess is outside the trailer which for all practical purposes is nothing more than a bedroom.

I can tell you though, the toilet is perfect for holding wood pellets for fires, and it makes a great closet as is. the sink holds all kinds of things so they don't slide around while driving (sink also has never been used) and I too added some bit with glue to a cutting board to make a nice countertop out of the stove area. No need to rip it all out. I did rip out the refrigerator and microwave. Both are pointless for a small TT.
What was added that I like? the smallest home window AC unit they make. That is critical if you camp in warm weather and takes up no room: it's permantly mounted in place of one of the back windows.

That's a 15 footer. It's the same as my old 1977 15SC. If it has the fold down upper bunks on each end it's an SC model. If there are no upper bunks it's an RC.
We were happy to have the toilet in the camper but we removed the stove and did all our cooking outside.
