New here with a 1983 T-1451 travel trailer
Hello,
We recently got a 1983 T-1451. While most everything still works and it was loved and cared for, it desperately needs an update from sitting out in New England weather for many years. We found mold and rot in the bathroom area (likely from a small hole in the siding), and soft spots in the floor, so some of the wood frame need replacing. We're in for a significant gut and reno, which is fine with us because we love a project. It will eventually be unrecognizable from what it is now, but with some rotting studs there's really no way around rebuilding.
We are going to nix the bathroom, stovetop, and fridge so we have more space. We will need to install new floors, walls, insulation, and ceiling, fresh water tank, cabinets, build a platform bed, and possibly re-align or replace the door. We also need to cover over the vents that were for the fridge and stove vent. The exterior needs a good cleaning and paint job.
We started gutting it last weekend, so everything it out now except floors, walls, most of the ceiling, the toilet and shower area, and water heater. We left just about all electrical and plumbing intact for now.
As avid tent campers we've also never owned a travel trailer before! We live in MA and it's is currently parked and being renovated in a family member's yard in NH.
We made an Instagram account: @campie_the_sunline.
If you've also done a very significant renovation, or have any useful resources to share, I would love to hear more.
-Stephanie
