Hello everyone, and boy am I glad to have found you all. First time TT owner, and all the info here is just fantastic.
My sons (ages 10 and 5) are hardcore BMX bicyle racers, and staying in tents at some of the races has gotten old quick. I began to look around for an inexpensive camper to "get my feet wet". A fellow racer informed me of one that wasn't really for sale, but he said the owner might part with it. I took a look, came home and did about three hours worth of reading on this site...lol. Well, long story short, shes coming home this weekend. Going to park her and give her a new set ot tires (they're original!) brakes, new carpet in rear, and a laminate floor in the front, and a good going over.
My tow vehicles are a 94 chevy dually 6.5 diesel, anda 2000 Ford Expedition 5.4.

Hi Jason,

Welcome to the group and congratulations on your Sunline purchase. This IS the BEST site to belong to when you own a Sunline.

I'm going to make a recommendation, since you state that the trailer tires are the originals, that makes them 23 years old or OLDER. It might/will be in your best interest to put the new ones on before you tow it home, if there is anyway possible to do it. Those tires are way beyond usable, and a blowout could be disasterous.

Jason,

If you get a chance, could you document what brand/size the original tires were...just for my records.

Thanks, and welcome!
Jon

I'd be happy to Jon. I also have all of the original paperwork ond owners manuals, about 1-2" thick, and I'd be happy to share those as well.

WOW, Jason it sounds like you have found a well loved Sunline. I'll be thinking good tire thoughts for you. Being a rural road, you should be able to take it pretty easy, as a blowout can really tear things up if your going very fast. OH, yeah, we like pictures, lots of pictures if and when you can

Maybe you can attend the Sunline Rally next June in Mexico, PA ?

From what I understand, the fella I bought it from purchased it from the original owners (now very old). It wasn't used much, and was parked on a paved area, and the underside shows little surface rust. The fridge and hw heater were replaced in the late 90's (with receipts). The second owner bought it to use as a place to "crash" while constructing his new home, so it has been parked in the same spot for two years. It has a few dings and scrapes, and the roof could use some love, but for what I paid, I'm happy. To the best of my knowledge, everything works, even all of the clearance lights, and has all four original hubcaps.
My goal is to get it ready for our trip to Woodward, Pa. in late September, kind of do a shakedown run, then do a light resto. Luckily I'm a carpenter, and certified welder, so I'm not overly worried about what I might find when I dig in.
I'd love to head down to the rally with her...we'll see...

Jason,

Welcome to the club and congrats on the new (to you) Sunline.

Sounds like you have all the experience and knowlege to keep it in great working order.

I'm sure you and your boys will really enjoy it. Plus it will make those trips to the BMX races so much more comfortable.

Enjoy and have fun.
Hutch

Welcome Z,

Save your directions to Woodward, the Meet and Greet is just 15 miles south of there, Mexico PA, in June 09.

Love to see some pictures if you have the chance. I'm very much into DIY fixes and upgrades. Any questions as to what you might find, feel free to ask. I'm pretty familiar with what the inside of the walls look like and how they're built.

I promise, you're going to love the difference camping in a travel trailer vs tent.

Take care,
Jason

thanks for the warm welcome guys. We go to woodward every year for the Northeast Regional Championship at Camp Woodward. Maybe we'll plan a trip next year to hit a local race and the MandG.
I'll be taking a bunch of pics, but I'm going to have to learn how to post em all...
We were at a race in Bridgewater New York a couple weeks ago.At about midnight after the rainfly blew off the tent, we bailed and jumped into the Expedition with all of our gear. Tent had 2" of water in it next morning, sleeping bags weighed about 75lbs each I think! Not going to miss that!

Z,

Getting pictures up is no problem... I use photobucket.com to host my pictures, there's no cost. Uploading and creating albums there is pretty easy and adding the image codes to the posts here is no problem, just a click copy and paste.

Take care,
Jason

Hi!

I just joined myself, and we have (or will have!) very similar models. I too, am picking mine up this weekend. It's an 84 T-2250. If you read my post in introductions from tonight, you can see I have a little work to do. I used to be an auto mechanic, and I actually worked at an RV dealer for about 2 years back in the 80s. So I have a pretty good basic knowledge, but we never had to do any ripping apart of floors or roofs, since most models were pretty new. We didnt do restorations..... Hopefully I haven't forgotten too much!

Best of luck with yours! I am worried about the tires making the trip home too, I may stop on the way home and get new ones. I have about an hour drive.
