Cool New 2000 Sunline Advancer L-21B Owners

Hi! My name is Sally. My husband Bill and I just recently acquired a 2000 Sunline Advancer L-21B. Everything works inside and the cabinets are in great shape, but the floor is going to need to be replaced. Anyone have any tips, pictures, etc. would be welcome. Thanks! ~SALLY~

Hi Sally and Bill,

Welcome!

We may be to help you, but we also may need more info to help you better.

When you say, "the floor is going to need to be replaced." are you referring to the "entire" floor in the camper or only a portion of it, and if a portion, how much and where on the floor plan?

Assuming you feel the floor is soft, does it have water damage (that you know of) or just structural damage?

I have rebuilt many floor portions in the Sunlines that had wooden floor joists; the walls in all these cases also had water damage which is how the floor rotted out. I have lots of pics and posts showing this and am glad to share. But, your Advancer was made differently than the wooden framed Sunlines. Yours I "believe," was Sunline's first start into making a composite section floor of aluminum, foam board, and then luan plywood on top.

Some of the Advancers did have wooden floor joists; then they went to the aluminum sandwich. You will have to sort out which vintage you have. The year 2000 Advanver sales brochure in our files section discusses the new aluminum frame so you might have the metal.

To get you started, here are three posts from other members who did floor repairs on their advancers

https://www.sunlineclub.com/forums/f...cer-16265.html

https://www.sunlineclub.com/forums/f...cer-14798.html

If you are doing an entire or partial floor, you might create a wood floor joist structure and then new plywood on top. But this kind of decision is premature until you and we know more about "why" the floor needs to be replaced. Water damage in the walls may suggest a different approach for the walls and the floor.

Give us more to go on, and we can help better.

Hope this helps

John

Sally,

Posting pictures helps in these cases. They help show what you are up against, and we can help better than just typing text to get the message across.

In case you need help posting pics to the forum,

There are 3 ways to add pics.

1. Upload pics to a specific post attaching them at the end of the post.

2. Linking them in from a public viewable web photo hosting service you have.

See here for 1 and 2 https://www.sunlineclub.com/forums/f...html#post86041

3. You can upload pics to the forum in your own personal photo album. Then link them to anywhere in the text of a post. See here for how to create an album. https://www.sunlineclub.com/forums/f...html#post87945

If you still get stuck, let us know. Pic's go a long way in helping show things you are working on, and we like seeing Sunline pics!

Hope this helps

John

Thank you

Thank you John B for your reply and comments on our Sunline.

The floor is the aluminum, foam, and luan one. The faucet must had never been winterized properly as we found a crack and leak on the bottom. We replaced that and verfied that there no other leaks. The floor was the worst in the front probably beacuse it was stored with the jack down. We removed all the luan and spray mold/mildew remediation. Now we are installing metal angle around the cabinets and seating areas which we plan on dropping in 1/2" BC plywood and gluing it the foam by raising up up with scissor jacks and a board from underneath. Once that is done we are going to put in tongue and groove vinyl flooring planks. That should make for a solid floor for the time being.

We plan on cleaning and resealing the roof seams with tape, even though there are no visible leaks, once the floor is done. We still need to find some outside vent covers - refrigerator one is totally missing and the electrical one is busted. Also, for vehicle inspection here, we need to get the electric bakes working or replaced.

I received my fabric to do the cushsions, just need to order the foam. The new awning is on its way.

All and all I think we are making good progress. We are planning on taking it out the end of July through mid-August as I have shows to vend at in ME, MA, and NY.

Sally
