Just bought our very first camper!

Hi Everyone! My name is Sera and my husband Lincoln and I just purchased a "vintage" (like us!) Sunline 1983 T-1550 14' camper. We've been looking for a while and finally found something that, with a bit of TLC, will be our chance to get out and enjoy a bit of travel! I feel like a kid at Christmas, full of plans to refurbish this baby and possibly get it roadworthy for mid summer. My husband owns his own garage and fixes cars for a living so maybe I'm just signing him up for a busman's holiday as it were, but we are very happy with our "retro" purchase. We will be reading these boards a LOT- happy almost-summer to everyone! Sera

Here's our new baby!! Needs a good, thorough washing and some repairs for sure as it's sat without being used for a couple of years. Structurally it's very sound and should be ready to roll by mid summer. I am so very jazzed!

That looks great! I was looking for one of these for myself, but chanced upon a 1985 T-2100 that needs TLC as well. The folks here are more than helpful, so ask all your questions and mane some new friends!

Where in CT are you? I'm in NE CT.

Best wishes,
Jen

hi Jen! we live in Bristol - the northwest hills! We got a super deal on our new camper and it's the culmination of years of dreaming and months of searching. We are looking forward very much to making new friends and adding travel adventures to our golden years! Maybe we'll run across each other at an event soon! Best wishes for a great summer on the Road! Sera

Hi Sera and Lincoln,

Welcome to the SOC. You will find lots of friendly and helpful people on this site. Nancy and I have been enjoying Sunlines for more than twenty years. We traded our 1992 T-2251 just last spring on another Sunline, a T-2553. We, also, are looking forward to the coming camping season. I'm sure you will enjoy your, new to you, T-1550. Many of us are "vintage, too."
Again, welcome!!

Many thanks for all the warm welcomes! We are off to Home Depot on a lovely sunny Connecticut day to purchase just the first of the things we'll need to help us bring our new baby up to camping speed! Have a great Saturday all and thanks for making us feel so welcome. My husband will be posting more later I'm sure as he tries to put all the mechanical bits and pieces into place. The info on this forum seems to be topnotch!
Stay happy- Sera

WELCOME SERA, Prior Poughkeepsie / fishkill New York resident. Now early
retire east Tenn. I have a few pics in our album , top tool bar in photos.
Also searched for 3 months for a small rig. Finally got ours in Nov 2012,
1/4 mile away.. The 1979 graphics of your size . In the FILES called 15 S.C.. OUrs is the rear dinette & still has the TWO end flip down kids bunks.
i see the two small upper windows on your drivers side. You also have the flip down bunks. ?
Post a inside pic when you get one. Again CONGRATS, money in the bank. Original
hubcaps (Look like the Ford Mustang spokes), good score. Find another or the
rare model 18 ft 5th wheel , Gooseneck model.

Welcome Sera and Lincoln! You definitely scored there, it looks in really nice shape. Depending on how long it sat like that tilted back, I'd look for water damage in the rear of the trailer. Hopefully you don't find any though.

As Split said, the original hubcaps (or hubcap only?) is a good find, because they are getting harder to find these days.

Thanks Split and Sunshine fan!! Yeah, we feel we got a real bargain with our purchase. There is a wee bit of moisture we need to deal with from the ceiling but it isn't major and easily done. It needs new rubber, some work on the brakes and the exterior needs scrubbing as well as interior updating, but my husband is a mechanic with his own garage so we're all good!!

Looking at the trees in the background, is seems the camper is level but parked on a hill.

Yep Clueless - left for a couple of years in a fairly level field, just slightly pitched a bit. Water seems to have come in a bit around a dry rot seal in the air vent on the roof. No mold smell inside so I'm thinking it's recent damage, caught in time. That's the very FIRST fix after hubby flatbeds her home!! She will be a work in progress until probably July but that leaves us LOTS of time to get her ready for our very first trip to Maine in September!!

Hey Bunjin! This is indeed a very small world! What part of Bristol are you at? My husband and I live off of Rte. 72. Thanks for the offer of possible advice- I'm sure we'll need it before we too far down the renovation highway!
Thanks for the welcome again! Sera
