Introduction

Hello all,

my name is Peter, I'm from Germany.
I bought a 1987 Sunline C-951 sportster truck camper a few days ago. It has no fridge and no oven (removed by the last owner). Furnace and water heater are present, but not working. Also do the toilet.
In the next time I will try to complete the camper with the missing things and look over the things which are not in use.
Actually I'm searching for manuals, datasheet and so on.

To the person:
I'm 55 years old, married and live in Germany, city of Dortmund (area is called "Ruhrgebiet" in former times a large area of steel producing and coal mining).
I'm the owner of a small moving company for now 29 years.
I drive a 1967 Plymouth Fury and a 1985 Dodge W350 Crewcab, which should carry the camper. In the next days I'll take a few pictures, of the camper and my cars.
For now this is all. Hope someone can help me finding the paperwork.

Have a good day!

Hello Peter,

Welcome to Sunline Owners Club! And congratulations on your Sunny!

This is unique to have a Sunline in Germany! You may be the first that we know of. I have spent much time for work over the last 16 years visiting/working in Germany buying and building machines for the company I worked for. I retired last year. We went to Neumünster up north. Between Hamburg and Kiel. About 3.5 hours north of you. I miss the great small family restaurants you have.

To you quest for information. In our "FILES" section we have a copy of the 1987 Sunline brochure that you can down load. On the top of the forum are tabs, look for the tab called "FILES" Looks like this,

When logged in, click the files tab and scroll down to "Sunline Brochures". Click in there and scroll to the year of your camper and down load a copy of the brochure. It lists some specs on your truck camper.

To a manual, see this response to a fellow forum member a few weeks ago. Read the rest of the thread for what I am about to tell you.
http://www.sunlineclub.com/forums/f6...tml#post138104

In our files section we have some of the travel trailers manuals but so far not one made for a truck camper. Keep in mind as the post above I linked you too, the Sunline manual has a generic camper section which tells you about the camper in general terms. This generic camper section would be close to what possibly was in a truck camper also. The rest of the manual was product manuals from the appliance manufactures or other purchased items in the camper. And those manuals can be still be found on line from many of the manufactures. We have many of the appliances already on our site in the files section. You can see if the model numbers you have line up with what we already have to help are you build your manual. We can also help you look if you cannot find any. Just post the make and model of the item you need help with and we can help look.

Sunline made a fair quantity of truck campers over the years. However not as many as the travel trailers. We do have some members who have truck campers, but the number is few compared to the very large number of trailer owners.

This sub forum was made for owners posting about truck camper specific items. Reviewing through here may give you some information.
Sunline Truck Campers - Sunline Coach Owner's Club

That said, as a forum we are well versed in the Sunline manufacturing methods of camper building. Just maybe a little light on the truck camper specific things like the jack stands. However the rest of the camper was built very similar for the travel trailers and we can help in that capacity to help you.

Pictures go a long way in helping. We can see what you are up against and give better responses.

Seeing your Sunline on that old Dodge truck will be a treat for us. Both the camper and the truck!!

Hope this helps

John

Wow! This makes for the first Sunline I know of in Europe. I saw a picture of one in China one time.

Thanks for the welcome!
Maybe some of my post will look/sound a bit strange, remember I'm not a native speaker !
I will go for a great car-meeting here about 35km away this weekend. The first time with the new Sunny!!! Hope it will stay dry inside... About 300 Mopars 50's up to 79 and some a bit younger. They come from Germany, Switzerland, Netherland, Belgium, and of course, three older men, each with his own car, the long way from Finland!
Next week I will post a few pictures of the Sunny and the Dodge.
So long!

Pit

Can't wait to see the pictures!

So I have to ask, where did you find the camper? Did you have it shipped from the US?

Yes, we like pics!!!

This is going to be a real treat to see a Sunline in Germany.

One year we had a trip to make an inspection visit on a machine we where buying. This was in early summer. We landed in Hamburg and went north on the autobahn towards Kiel. It must of been the time of year when family's having children just get out of school. There where hundreds if not thousands of little cars with little campers heading north... Since you have much better laws about towing speeds with a camper, many where driving on the shoulder of the road to not exceed the towing speed limit and to allow all the fast drivers be in the left lane. This was a sight that I will never forget. Mile after mile long of almost bumper to bumper campers heading out for a camp-out.

Seeing a Sunline with a Dodge truck is not very common... over their.

Here are some pics of one of our trips. This was not the event above but on a road trip I was taking pictures of all the campers along the way. Very interesting the differences between campers in the EU compared to the US.

Have a great time.

Thanks

John

Thanks for the blast from the past with those pictures, from the early SOC days!

The gas station people are probably still talking about that crazy tourist who was taking pictures of their advertising trailer! Of course you know, I would have done the same.

One thing I'm surprised to see, which I guess is common with what I've seen on caravans in general, is how far forward the axle is. Obviously this will help with tongue weight for the small cars they tow with, but I'd think they would want to sway like crazy. Especially with fast cars/vans passing them at a much higher rate of speed.

Hi Jon,

Yes, Germany has very small cars towing very small campers. Proper tongue weight to create stable towing is for sure a need. I must comment on some of the very good practices they do. During camping season time, towing campers is very popular. And to help the safety of those towing, I remember often seeing commercials on TV during the camping season about how to properly balance and weigh your camper tongue to make sure you have proper tongue weight. As a country they are prompting safe towing. I do not know if this came from big problems years ago, but it was very visible during my time there.

They also regulate how fast you can tow a camper and it depends on if you have an anti sway hitch or not. The general public and police too I'm assuming, take this very seriously. You do not see fast towing campers in Germany. That said, cars with no campers and trucks do go fast....

Here in the US, we do not do such a good job with this. When was the last time you recall when buying a camper explanations about proper tongue weight and towing safety when bought from a dealer? And have you ever seen it on TV?

As to the large passing vehicles inducing sway on the small car/camper, that may well be why they were on the shoulder of the autobahn. Create more distance from the larger fast moving vehicles. There are for sure a lot of semi trucks in Germany. They are all over moving freight within the country.

Maybe Peter can comment on some of this if I have it mixed up.

Ok, here are a few pictures:

The Dodge is an old army-car out of 1985. It's a W350 Crewcab, 360cui V8.
The Fury is from 1967. Fury I, economy version with 225cui /6 motor.

I bought the Sunny around here about 50km away. I have NO information, since when the Camper is in Germany. On the back are a few stickers from USA-states, it was not all the time here...
The first impressions:
My car/camper were the great sensation on the car-meeting. It was at first, like I wrote, a Mopar-Meeting, but my car was an eye-catcher! I'm a little bit proud! If you are interested in pictures of the meeting, visit:
For photos of the meeting "Mopar Nationals Germany": https://www.facebook.com/pg/rostglan...14553822020056
For photos of the "race at the airport": https://www.facebook.com/pg/rostglan...15259408616164

The camper has a leak on the roof. Water comes in, not much, but a little. The former owner told me that it COULD be a bit leaky.
For now it is covered against rain. I will look now for a dry place to repair the roof at first.
Next steps are:
Maintance of furnace and water-heater, searching for an european fridge with 220V, searching for a stove. When i have a few time left, I will take photos from inside.
This was it for now, have a good time!

New Owner of 2003 Solaris 2755

Hello All,
Just purchased a 2003 Solaria 2755. New to RV'ng and looking for suggestions and or responses.
Never owned a camper before so I have lots of questions. 1st biggie is how do I turn on the heater. I have it on 120 house voltage, 30 amp. I have the heater switch turned on (it lights up) which is located in the panel that also has the pump switch. Does the heater turn on with the house voltage automatically, or does it run exclusively on propane?
That will be all for now but I will be back soon.
Thanks All!

Welcome Peter and NewbeeTerry! Congrats on your new-to-you Sunny. We love pics so post many.

NewbeeTerry - It is possible that your water heater is propane only. Mine is. To know for sure look at the heater for a model number and go under Files at the top of the page here and see if there is any documentation for it. You can also post the model number. Someone on the forum will probably have the same model and can tell you.

Happy camping!

Tommie

Awesome! The Mopar meet looks like a good time. I'm more of a Ford guy myself, but we have a few classic car fans among us here! A friend of mine in my local car club had a '66 Fury III last year, but it needed more rust repair than he could handle, so he sold it and bought an Edsel instead.

Pilot keeps going out

Thanks for the reply regarding my 2003 solaris's hot water heater. Now my problem is the pilot is not staying lit and (not sure it's related), my refrigerator has the check light on as well. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance! NewBee T.

Sounds like air in the propane lines... first light your stove with a lighter( so the flame catches sooner,)and then when it is a steady flame on all burners then light your fridge, and then your water heater.
