Question Hello from Michigan -Beautiful Great Lakes State

New to the forum and thinking of purchasing a 2005 Sunline T-1950
Here

Salesman, who wasn't very helful did tell me they bought it at an auction
I went to see it couple days ago and it appears to be in good shape, pretty clean.

They have it listed at $8,999 but I am thinking of offering $7,200, dealer prep included, fix the rail on the sliding table and I'll come and haul it away

Any thoughts?

Thanks
Joan

Welcome to the Sunline Club Joan.

It looks nice. Their asking price seems high, to me, but I haven't followed what units are selling for now. If it is clean and everything works with no leaks (including plumbing leaks) then your offer sounds good. Jon (Sunline Fan) would have a better handle on prices I am sure.

Maybe you could get them to deal on a wieght distribution hitch but I don't know what you have for towing.

Welcome Joan,

The asking price really isn't that far off from what is a norm right now. Actually, I think if it had the chair and other stuff, I wouldn't be surprised to see it listed for more. Most trailers, regardless of model, model year 2005-2007 are still all going for >10k. Occasionally I'll see a $9999 or something, but they usually don't go much lower than this. I know the NADA value is much less, but dealers still seem to think the last three model years, particularly the last two model years, are like gold. Especially after there was that small spike in the economy that sent prices up again, they really haven't come down much since that point earlier this year.

I think your idea of offering is good. It can't hurt to ask. If they don't take it, see if they offer something closer to their price, then you offer something closer to yours, and just keep going back and forth until you reach something you agree on. Most RV Salesmen are paid on commission, so he is interested in how much commission he'll make out of it.

Make sure to point out the faults, like it's missing the chair, bedspread, and pillows. Freeway RV never dealt in Sunline, but Midland RV did, so it's likely Freeway doesn't know what it should have. And you know since they bought it at an auction, they got a good deal on it.

So if you ever have any specific Sunline questions, Midland RV is a good place to visit to get some answers. I've never personally been there, but I do remember they dealt in them and seem to be a fairly small dealer. Also don't forget you can always come here...

Jon

I offered $7,200 today. Have to wait until Monday when the manager is there.

Yup I know the little chair is missing.

The salesman thought it might be an option and I said "No, I have never seen one without one and the previous owner must have taken it." The little fire extinguisher is missing but they will replace that. I don't really care about the bedspread or pillow because I have plan to completely redo the interior

It's a repo that was orginally purchased at General RV in Wayland, MI. I am not sure that General RV was ever a Sunline dealer but they seem to have quite of few on their lots?

I have done a lot research on rigs. Sunline was on my short list of TT and 5th wheels which included Bigfoot, and Titanium by Glendale. I decided to be conservative $$ on my first rig and then work my way up if I find out I love camping.

Thanks for all the replies....let you know on Monday if I am part of the Sunline family.
You have a wonderful supportive site!

It's just the two of us now and the T-1950 is perfect. You won't regret the choice and will love it as we do.

Welcome to the club.

I just got a call from the salesman. he said the bottom line is $8,400 and there is a woman from Chicago who appears to want it. I told him I thought that was high but I would call him back in a half hour. I don't know if the "Chicago lady" is true or not..Disappointed...not sure what to do?

Joan, if I was interested in that trailer, I'd sit tight on the $7,200 offer for another day or two and see what happens. There's a fair to good chance that the "lady from Chicago" is just salesman smoke and that you are the only interested person.

I would tell him I need a day to think on it. And then see if he calls back tomorrow.

I don't have much trust in what car and RV sales people say so I doubt that the $8,400 is really his bottom line, either.

My Dad said: Never run after a street car or a woman. Wait around a bit, and another one will come along.
That advice is good for Sunlines too.

I called back and told him I could do $7,500 and if the deal with the "lady from Chicago" fell through, he had my number

Disappointing, though. I put in an offer for a Bigfoot about 2 months ago that was rejected too

Back to the drawing board....I have seen a couple of bigger Sunline rigs but I don't want to start off with anything bigger than a 21ft......Thanks for everyone's response...certainly appreciated!

Hi Joan,

I know someone who lives in the Midland area and just asked them if they know anything about this dealer. Her cousin and husband bought their FW there and thought they got a fair deal. She's having to find out from him if they have more than one salesman, hopefully you had the chance to see.

I'm wondering if you just aren't dealing with a good salesman. Maybe you should consider calling back and ask the receptionist for a salesman other than whoever you spoke with and tell them you are interested in that unit. Then go from there. His whole story seems fishy and since he's done that, I hate to see where he'll try to pull something like skimping out on prep or a hitch system. Many salesmen end up paying for that out of their commission (or so I'm told), so they have the opportunity to make more by skimping out on the proper stuff.

If you can give me a year range and a minimum length you'd want, I'll try to keep my eyes open, if this doesn't work out.

Jon

Joan,
Do a search on Oodle. They seem to have Sunlines most of the time. You can even sign up (no cost) and get notified every time they find a Sunline for sale.
The T-1950 is a nice unit for one or two. DW and I looked at it before we bought our T-2499. At my age, the getting out of bed for a trip to the loo at night, just seemed to involve a little too much athletics with the limited access in and out of bed.

The salesman was awful! He acted like it was something unpleasant he was being forced to do! He told me that his boss set the price and he had nothing to do with it. Maybe I should call back and ask for the manager?

It will just be me and hopefully my new "baby"
My beautiful dog Maddie, 15 1/2 years young passed away this May.
We were going camping together "apackoftwo"
So I just started looking for a trailer maybe month and 1/2 ago and a puppy too

So it would just be the 2 of us, a newer T1950 or T-2075 would be perfect.
Thank you!

Hi Joan,

I can understand your enthusiasm to get a deal solidified and start on your adventure. Hopefully you will be able to reach middle ground with this dealer. The salesman sounds like so many salesmen in the auto and RV business. Trust that he is trying to hold onto the biggest chunk of profit possible and will make it sound as if your taking food from his kids dinner plate if necessary to sway your emotions. It is a cat and mouse chase for sure, and if you get emotionally attached he will gain the leverage he needs to tilt the deal his way. If you seriously ARE getting attached and can afford it...maybe making the purchase happen will be the best ending to this deal, but if your not attached yet and your just trying to squeeze some additional savings then hang tight.

Best of luck!

Bob

Joan,
Don't know if you are still looking, but Freeway Auto & RV in Midland apparently has, what seems to be a T-1950 for sale.
It is a 2005, and the ad says it is a "1905", which I assume is a misprint, as I don't think there is such a thing. The picture looks like a 1950, and they want $8995 for it.
Phone number is 877-232-2588 or 989-835-7878.
Good Sunline hunting!

Joan,
Sorry, That is the one with which you had such a terrible sales person.
It dawned on me that it could be, and I found it was so when I went back to your original post.
Let's just call it a "senior moment".

Joan,
Are you still looking?
There is a 2002 1950 for sale in Williston, VT for $3695.
Looks like a good buy, depending on condition.
Saw it on rvtraderonline.com.

That Sunline logo on the rock guard is in better shape than mine.

That style LP tank cover was an extra that I wish I had too.
