Any leak problems with Slide models?

Hey Folks,

We are very close to making a decision on the Sunline we are going to purchase. One question we have is are they any negatives to having a slide model. Obvious concern is water leaks and not having the manufacturer still being in business.

Thanks much,

Billy

Hi Bill,

I don't think you really need to worry about the slides leaking. I haven't heard of that a whole lot. As long as the seal is in good working order, not dry rotted, worn, or torn, you should be fine. If it is raining and you pull the slide it, you should try to get excess water off before or just after you pull it in, so the water doesn't stay inside and possibly drip off onto the carpet.

The only issues with Slide Rooms that I can think of are weight and size. Slide Room models tend to be heavier due to the room itself, the extra mechanical equipment required to operate the room, and the heavier duty frame to support the weight and stress of the extended room. Also, in order to allow for a decent ceiling height in the slide, the trailer must be higher to start with. This is only an issue if you plan to put the TT inside a barn/storage building. Lastly, the Slide models tend to be longer, so if you want a longer trailer (and can tow it), you're fine.

Jon

Hi Bill,

We're in our 2nd season with our T-280SR and extremely happy with it.

No problems with water leaks around the slide.

We had a slide topper installed, which eliminates water and debris from staying on top of the slide room when it's in.

We did have to upgrade our tow vehicle becuase of the extra weight of the trailer.

Good luck.

We've been out 3 times this spring with our 289SR. We've had some heavy rains and no leaks around the slide or elswhere. We also have a slide topper on ours which is a big asset. Our last TT didn't have a cover over the slide and I spent a lot of time cleaning water and debris from the slide before closing it.

Bill,

Just remember that the slide model is heavier than a non-slide....are you looking at the 195SR or something else?

You bet, shooting for the 16th to pick it up and I'd love to meet up with everyone in the Dacks!

Gotta run though, heading off for a National Match tomorrow and have nothing set up for it!

Just wanted to pop in and see what was new.

Thanks and catch you all tonight or next Monday. Wish I had it now we would have a great time camping in Tn.

Billy

Thanks for that! Think I will order everything I need from E-trailer and then bring it all into my local guy. He told me to get it on my own as I would most likely get it at a better price. How cool is that of him?

So I will give them a ring from the road tomorrow and have it all shipped to my house so it is there waiting for me.

Thanks!

Billy

Well I see that this is an old post. Anyway, yes we have had water problems with our slide on our Solaris 286. I know of another couple with the same trailer as ours and they have had water problems also.

The seals don't seem to leak, but we drove in a real hard rain storm. When we opened up the slike we had water on the floor at the front of the slide, and the carpet at the front was wet. We only had that happen once. Water must have come up from underneath the trailer when we were driving.

Thanks Ken, I noticed when my slide was closed you could see outside through a gap. I'll get some weather striping and take care of it.

Thanks!
