Tires for the Tow Vehicle

I've got an 06 Dodge Ram 2500 (2wd).

Time to get new tires. Most of our campsites are unpaved fields. The Michelins that came with the truck never had great traction off road especially in wet grass.
I'm thinking an All-terrain tire may be useful. I'd like to keep the noise down as much as possible.
I've heard good things about the BF Goodrich AT, but they're real proud of their stuff, ($250 per tire, mounted).
Can y'all recommend any other options such as different tire type or less expensive brands?
Thanks.

Mule,

I have a 1/2 ton that came with P rated radials. To help with stability when towing, I upgraded to LT rated tires. I went with C weight rating . You will probably have to go with an E rating for your 3/4 ton.

Anyways, my mechanic recommended Delta LTR Sierradials. An off/on road tire that has great grip but not too much road noise. I ran them last winter with no problems. Paid $110.00 @ out the door.

They list a couple of dealers in Gulfport.

I've had 2 sets (on two different trucks) of Firestone Transforce AT tires. They have good traction in snow and rain, and very low to no highway noise. Do you have the 245/70 R17, or the 265/70 R17? Anyway check this link. http://www.tirerack.com/tires/Compare1.jsp?width=245%2F&ratio=70&diameter=17&ski pOver=true&autoYear=2006&diameter=17&sortCode=5010 1&autoModel=Ram+2500+QuadCab+2wd&skipOver=true&rat io=70&autoMake=Dodge&minLoad=E&autoModClar=&minSpe edRating=R&width=245%2F&vehicleSearch=true&startIn dex=0&search=true&pagelen=20&pagenum=1&pagemark=1& speed_rating=R&speed_rating=S&speed_rating=T&speed _rating=U&speed_rating=H&speed_rating=V&speed_rati ng=Z&speed_rating=W&speed_rating=Y&speed_rating=(Y )&load_rating=E&load_rating=F&load_rating=G&RunFla t=All&loadRank=6

It will take you to a list of tires available from Thetirerack.com that match your vehicle. You can look at different tires and ratings from others that have the tires to determine which are right for you. I havn't bought tires from anywhere else for quite some time. Even after I pay the shipping charge and to have someone mount and balance them I'm still way ahead of the tire store prices.

Good luck.

I've been very happy with the YOKOHAMA Geolander HT/S tires on my 3/4-ton Chevy. I run a 265/75-R16 E range tire. I have 60K+ on the set I just removed from the truck and I still have some tread left before the wear bars are exposed.

This was towing my 3000-pound popup... only a few hundred miles of this was towing the much heavier Sunline. I'm not sure I'll get the same wear towing the Sunline.

I found these tires to perform well EXCEPT in wet grass. If I had the A/T version of this tire, perhaps the wet grass traction would have been better.
