Sunline trailer not even

Hi Everyone.
When I tow my 26' Sunline it's not even. Front of trailer is lower and truck backend is down. I see allot of trailers that people are towing with the same issue. Is it ok to keep towing the trailer like this or not? What is the cheapest way to fix this problem?.

Hi Gregory,

You are right, there are a lot of camper/tow vehicles setups that are camper nose down too low and rear of truck squatting with the front end of the truck too high. This is not a good thing and the setup is not right.

In your case, we can help but we need some more to go on to tell how far nose down the camper is, how sagging the truck rear is and how high up the truck front end is. Then help you correct a problem if there is one. We need more info to be able to tell if there is a problem or not.

Lets start with,

1. What is your camper model and year?

2. Are you using a weight distributing hitch? If so, what brand, size and what size weight distributing bars do you have?

3. What truck year and model do you have?

4. Have you or a dealer ever set up the weight distribution hitch on the truck? and if so by chance do you have current day fender heights on the front and rear axles of the truck? And how low or high the camper is from level when all hitched up? We really need numbers from a tape measure, not it looks high or low.

5. And, ideally, any pics you can post of the whole truck and camper loaded ready to go camping that show a side view of the truck and camper, and then a pic of the hitch setup more zoomed in showing from the front of the camper to the bumper of the truck? We can then see what you have now.

If you need help posting pics, let us know. In these cases pics go a long way in helping seeing what you are up against or have. It makes this process so much easier.

Hi Gregory,

To your direct question, yes, adjusting the trailer hitch will help level out the camper when towing. But there is more to this to make sure you are not overloading the truck receiver hitch.

If you have a 26 ft Sunline, that normally has a heavy enough loaded tongue weight that it needs a weight distributing hitch (which most have adjustable hitch heads, ) unless you are towing with a very heavy duty truck, that has the receiver and hitch equipment rated to carry the loaded camper tongue weight with out a weight distribution hitch.

The reply above asked for some info on your setup. We may be able to help you adjust what you have, and check that all the ratings of your towing system are in line. We just need more from you on what you have to help better.
