and as for a turbo v6 in a corvette? all i can do is laugh, that is years away, and a very risky move on chevys part if they tried that......no one buys a vette because it gets good gas mileage or they have problems affording fuel.........i dont see v8s being phased out any time soon....or ever.

Usually when motors are tuned higher they require premium gas instead to the regular. The Ecoboost in the new Ford Mustangs recommends premium but I didn't see that mentioned on the new 150s.
Longevity is another subject. I was impressed by the F150s endurance tests with the twin turbos. Either the test vehicle was exceptional or Ford was lucky parts didn't explode. If I tried driving like that mine would explode going out the gate.

I too had trouble getting over the V8 thing. My 2006 5.4L engine had 300hp and the eco boost V6 has 365 (and 420 lbs torque).
New tech. I've re-built engines in my day but today when I look under the hood there's nothing familiar. I think there's at least spark plugs under there somewhere, isn't there?
I haven't towed with it yet but I'm having fun pulling G's bringing back the sensation of the old 427 Ford back in the 60's. Any more than 2" or 3" on the gas spins the tires.
I did get top trade in on the 2006 F150 because it only had 27000 miles. I have a 3 mile commute. It had a 7300# tow capacity.

Whoda thunk it a few years ago. A 6cyl pulling a 30' 5th wheel.
Follow up. The F150 pulled the 7000# camper nicely and came to highway speed in no time. As mentioned once a trailer is hooked up the dash has a display with trailer brake value and a running mileage pulling a trailer. The dash even has a check list: King pin locked? Lights all checked? Brake breakaway hooked up? etc. The extendable mirrors are just right and the retractable side box steps are just right for tending to the 5th wheel. You can even bring up the transmission temp on the screen.
This is a great TV.

Update after my first trip towing an 8000# trailer in the Adirondacks with the eco drive and max tow (11,300). I drove a short distance on the highway and was up to 65 long before the end of the ramp. Most of the trip was on back roads. On a steep hill through a city I stopped at a light and was able to start up and accelerate up hill. The truck has a hill hold by the way. My 5.4 L V8 towing a 5000# trailer got 10mpg, this time I got 11.2MPG. I drove a total of 140 miles and had about half a tank meaning I didn't have to fill up in the 'Dacks at 20 cents/gal more. I never slowed down on the hills. I think the most it shifted down was to 4th. (six speed trans). Most of the time in tow mode (stays in each gear longer) it was in 6th. I'm impressed!

Sounds like a great trip with a real hoss doing the pulling. That extra horsepower has to be good for towing.
On my Expedition, with the six speed transmission, in tow mode the transmission will start off in 1st gear and top out at 5th gear. When tow mode is off the transmission starts in 2nd gear and will go to 6th gear. Here is Florida I start with tow mode on and when I reach about 45MPG I will turn tow mode off and let transmission go into 6th gear. Also, when slowing down I will turn tow mode back on to let the transmission help slow us down.

Sorry, not me. From Rotterdam (Schenectady) I took the thruway to Amsterdam and up rt 30 toward Wells to Sacandaga Campsite.
story..... that was Friday. Thursday I woke up in Istanbul. In Amsterdam, Holland on the way home I wrote in facebook, "I'm sitting here in Amsterdam which isn't far from Rotterdam waiting to fly home to Rotterdam which by the way is pretty close to Amsterdam".

Finally pulled the 2499 this past weekend. Only 15 miles to a nearby campground with my fellow nozzlenuts. Pulled like it was not there.
Leaving for the Thousand Islands on the eighth. I take 95 % two lane. I will let you know when I get back on the towing milage.

I'm baaack !!!
Pulled to the Thousand Islands. What a difference over the old Chevy. 11.5 MPG on the flats. 10.8 in the hills. Speed was 57 MPH on average.
Here"s the kicker. In the 80 degree range while towing. So the A/C was running and for the first time, I had the water tank full. Bed of the truck was full. Even with that load, the tranny never varied more than 2 degrees from 200.
So far, best truck that I have ever owned. Almost 8 months and problem free.
