Hitch Ball Size??
Hello, What size ball does a 1978 or 1979 Sunline Sunspot use? (not sure what year it is). Or where may I find this info? Thank You.

Deano, I think most hitches have the ball size stamped in the metal somewhere. Not sure about older units like yours but if you have thick paint it might be hidden under the paint..... You might also try looking in the Files on this site from the tab at the top of the page.
Good luck!

Thank you for the info. Found it takes a 2". Got the unit home last night. 1979 Sunline Sunspot. Looks to be all original and in really good shape for a 79. Thanks again!

Deano,
Welcome, and glad you got things home even though you did it with a "hitch".
Would love to see some pictures.

SW MI. I'll post a photo. Cleaned it up a bit yesterday and got everything working but the "pump kitchen faucet". My have to repalce it. Now it's just a matter of doing cosmetic touch ups. Very pleased so far with the Sunspot though. I would like to find out how many were made and how many are still on the road?. Also it would be nice if a manual were available?. Thanks and have a fine day!

Awesome! Did you by chance buy it from a guy named Dave in somewhere around Three Rivers/Kzoo? I remember one over that way and he sent me some pics of it, but I'm not at home to reference them. Wasn't 100% original, but it was mostly.
I'm told only about 100 were built. Only a handful are on the road today. I know of a couple that have been wrecked, either on road or off road from weather.
I believe an RV dealer should carry the pump faucet, if it's what I'm thinking they still make/sell them in the aftermarket. You can probably find them online as well.
There was no such thing as an owner's manual. Sunlines of this vintage originally came with a white paper envelope that contained a few production papers and all of the individual appliance manuals. Many of those appliance manuals can be found through Google today.

Thank you very much for the information! Yes indeed I did buy it from Dave in TR. Very nice fellow. Also, I do have the envelope you mentioned and it has the mentioned paper work enclosed. From photos I have seen of other Sunspot units the one I have doesn’t have the correct stove. The fridge was new 7 years ago. It is electric or LP. At some point someone completely re wired it. Only bad spot I have found is above the entry door. The header has some rot. I will repair it in the future. Any other information you may have on this unit or the Sunspot in general I would really enjoy hearing. I was also told this unit was stored in a garage for 20 years. If that is the case, it definitely contributed to the condition of the unit today.
Thank You!

Yes, in looking back at the pics, it definitely is a gem! That rock guard- WOW. I don't think I've seen one that nice, ever.
The rear doors are replacements, the originals weren't so solid looking and were split down the middle. The doors you have there look much better even though they aren't original. The decal is a reproduction, and close, but not exact.
Is the stove you mention one that hangs out the side? I see one that looks like that type in the pics sitting inside.
It's a plus that you have the original cushions and table as well.
One pic I have from Dave shows an original looking hubcap, then other pics have some wire wheel type hubcaps. The wire ones definitely aren't original.
Agreed on the replacement refrigerator, but I'm VERY glad to see it was done right by putting the the original door panel on the face.
Your kitchen counter area was also modified. The sink looks to be in the original position, but there was a stove between it and the wall. One of the complaints about this design is that stuff on the stove can splatter on the wall when there's no protection there. So people would put a piece of plexiglass on the wall there. You could always look for a small pop up stove if you wanted it original looking, because I think that's all it was. Something like this:
Gas Cooktops - 3 Burner Drop-In Cook Tops on Sale - PPL Motor Homes
Hopefully you're able to store the Sunspot inside as well, because a coach that well preserved deserves to be!

Amazing, all of your comments were items I have wondered about! Thank you. Very interesting. The rear doors are solid. Although the hinges may need some attention at some point. Yes, the stove has a hanger that lets it sit outside the back doors. There is an LP gas pipe that travels under the trailer from the LP tank to the back. It has a quick release coupling on the end. A flexible gas hose is then used to connect to the stove. Also, I’ll be sure and keep the original cushions and table! I don’t think the hub caps that are on the unit now are original. If you saw them you would know for sure. Dave had a small mishap and damaged both fenders. So I’m in the process of locating new ones now. Funny you should mention the “original door panel on the face”. I was out working on the Sunline yesterday and was inspecting that very panel wondering if it was original. We will probably leave the kitchen area as is. It seems to be very functional. I agree with you, the Sunspot does deserve to be stored inside…and it will be! We also have a 2004 30’ Gulfstream Innsbruck we keep at a local campground year round. The Sunspot will be our “traveling trailer” when we want to travel and camp. If you are interested I can send you photos to your e-mail. (not sure how to post them on the Sunline web site). Again, thank you for sharing the information. As questions arise I’ll be sure and post them!

I would like to see updated pics! You can email them to sunlinefan at yahoo dot com.
Finding new fenders shouldn't be too difficult since it's a pretty basic fenderskirt. Plus, Elkhart isn't too far away.
You should check out our meet and greet next May! Post in this thread to be informed of all the latest updates: http://www.sunlineclub.com/forums/f6...nge-14914.html

Welcome, Deano, and congratulations on your Sunspot! We've never seen one in person, and would love to do so someday.
Consider yourself blessed to have been schooled by SunlineFan. He is the Yoda of all things related to Sunline history.

Thank You! I agree, not only am I blessed to be schooled by SunlineFan, the SOC is fortunate to have the knowledge he has to share. Too often histories are lost by not taking advantage of learning from folks who are “in the know”.
Thanks again, Deano…….
