Had my first really close call on Sunday

Driving southbound on I 81 in PA, had just stopped at the Flying J, filled up, felt my trailer brakes were a little to hard, so I adjusted them and we continued south.

Soon after I was passed, on the left, by a guy who about 8 car lengths ahead went halfway off the road to the left and then across both lanes and into the guard rail on the right.

I was able to come to a complete, safe, stop, prior to his impact with the guard rail. But I admit I was shaken, and really glad I had taken the extra time to readjust the brakes.

There was no where for me to put the trailer off the road safely, so I wasn't able to personally check on the other vehicles passengers, but their airbags had deployed, and they were moving around. Other 'normal' sized vehicles were able to get off the road and offer assistance

WOW! It's scary to hear of something like that, let alone actually see it. I'm glad to hear you didn't get tied up in it.

Was this at night? Do you think he fell asleep at the wheel?

It wasn't at night - I would say it was around 3:15 pm

Falling asleep at the wheel is a possibility, I do not recall seeing any brake lights from the car till it was almost to the guard rail.

Was this in Carlisle? That is a very dangerous road there and there have been lots of bad accidents. I am glad you are OK.

No, I was up north further - coming down from Montrose passing through the Wilkes Barre area, both areas are hazardous though
