Chrysler, Dodge and Jeep recall for brake failure

Just saw this on the evening news. Hope no one is adversely affected.

About 24,000 Chrysler, Dodge, and Jeep vehicles are being recalled to repair a defective part that could cause sudden and unexpected brake failure. Chrysler says it's not aware of any accidents, but a test vehicle at one of its plants experienced total brake failure. The recall applies to some 2010 Sebring and Dodge Avenger Sedans, Dodge Nitro and Jeep Liberty SUVs, Jeep Commander and Grand Cherokee SUVs, and 2009 and 2010 Ram trucks.

If you have one of these vehicles, you might want to check with your dealer to see if you're affected. Who knows how long it might take to get a notice from Chrysler.

It wouldn't be good to lose brakes at anytime but especially while towing . I don't know, but would the electric trailer brakes help at all in this situation?

Here is what to look for if you own one:

Some of these vehicles could have an improperly formed brake booster rod retaining clip, and some Ram trucks may have been built without the piece. The part is necessary for consistent and proper functioning of the brakes.

Gene,

Thank you for posting the cause of the recall in detail and the link with the contact numbers. I hadn't seen that article and just copied and pasted what the television report stated.

I'm glad I found such a great site where the members are so helpful and genuinely care about each other.

Yes there are many good people here willing to help each other.

I certainly hope nobody experiences the problem and wondered exactly what to look at since it seems dealers will be inudated by this recall. I found one picture online that may help if anyone has an affected vehicle. It looks like the "retainer clip" holds the booster input rod to the brake pedal pin on the brake pedal so it should be easy to spot.
