2015 Chevy Traverse Towing t2251

Hey guys,

Just bought a 2015 Traverse AWD LT and has the Factory tow package rated at 5200lbs, I have owned my t2251 since 2007. Factory Dry weight is listed around 3250lbs. But I do have AC on the Camper, Is there a listed weight to add for installed dealer options on the sunlines?

We are looking at possibly getting a new camper, but all simliar trailers seem to be way heavier than my older sunline?

We are a family of 5 and I believe we are within limits with my current T2251 just double checking thoughts. Thank you in advance for any reply's.

I have a 2014 Acadia pulling a t2462. I just finished setting up the weight distribution hitch and working on installing the brake controller. Only sags 1/2" in the back. I've only pulled it around town and I t pulls easily and brakes easily with no trailer brakes (definitely don't recommend that, though!). I'd say your ok, but I'd like to hear from others who have done some highway miles as well.

Gross for the t2251 is 5000# so the rating of 5200# for the Traverse is just above that. No doubt when you add LP, food, cooking gear, dishes, clothes, and "stuff" to the dry weight of 3250# you will be close to 4000#.

I would be somewhat concerned with the 3.16 rear end coupled with the 3.6L V6 on the Traverse. I would suspect acceleration into traffic would be slow. Hill climbing may require some major downshifting to maintain speed.

Just a suggestion but put at least 500 "break in" miles on the Traverse before you tow with it.

Hi. I believe the roof AC is included in the factory dry weight. I will say that with a full family including 5 kids you are probably indeed near the limit with the traverse. Remember, the bodies and stuff in the vehicle count toward your GCWR which does affect your tow rating.

Most trailers will weigh more than a sunline as the sunlines did build for low weight unless you added the walk on roof.

I always feel worried about towing any sort of real weight with a unibody vehicle but I guess if it has a tow rating of 5,200 lbs then that is what it can do. I wouldn't go much heavier than your current sunline though with that.

Well Guys, The Traverse Handled my T2251 with ease!. I hauled to Alegany State Park. About 2 hr drive into the mountains we went. 2 adults 4 kids fully loaded with camping gear, She Handled I would say just as good as my Siverado did. Amazed I was, That VVT V6, can scoot from 3500rpms up. Plenty of power enough to actually gain speed on hills!!!. Very Pleasantly Surprised!. Very Comfy!

Do you have sway control on your hitch? Or does it do fine without it? I have a trip planned to the white mountains next month and wondering how it would do on windy mountain roads.

Never Had the Sway Control on the trailer either with the truck or the Traverse. Never Battled Sway for a moment in towing, I mean I get the tractor trailer suckin in passing, but that's normal imo, and I've towed my trailer on really windy days last year I remember but as long as you kept steady so did the trailer!.
