Wiring Question

Hello,

Is there a safe way to extend these wires? They run from the converter/charger to the battery. I have found YouTube videos using splice methods like the Western Union splice method but the videos always seem to be using lower gauge wire. I got a new Progressive Dynamics converter/charger but I want to move it a little further away from the water heater.

Thanks in advance,
Tommie

OK why do you want to move it? If you do then a #10 would be as small as you want to go.

Hi Mainah,

I want to move the converter a little further away from the water heater. The old one was mounted literally right next to the water heater.

I have heavier gauge wire ( 6 and 8 ) on hand.

Thanks.

Crimp connectors, no need for more exotic methods.

Yes a #8 would be fine. How are you going to deal with the 120 volt side? The 120 wire is a #14 Romex normally, some just plugged in, do you have enough length? Think of the gauge of wire with a factor of 10. If the DC load is 30 amps you only need 3 amps at 120 to provide that so there is no gain in trying to power the converter with a #8 wire.

Hi Mainah,

The new PD converter/charger plugs into a wall outlet. The wires that were providing power directly to the old power converter/charger is now running to a new wall outlet. It has been tested and is working as it should. This outlet will be used for the new converter/charger. I included a picture that shows the outlet before the wall went back in. Let me know if anything looks concerning.

Thanks,
Tommie

I agree just crimp connectors for the DC wires.
