Unhappy Where are the 12v fuses?

I have a 1985 T2263 Sunline trailer with a Hydro-flame 7920D furnace. The furnace was working properly for the last three years and now is "DEAD". No fan, no flame, no nothing.

Checked the analog thermostat with a volt meter and no voltage. The 5volt fuse inside the furnace is not blown and there is continuity on the wires going to and from the fuse.

There must be a set of 12 volt fuses somewhere in this RV - but where??? I have hunted everywhere within and the only 12v fuses found are under the front dinette seat and they are only for the trailer running lights.

There is a 120 volt curcuit breaker panel and a converter box under the bed platform but no 12 volt fuses visable.

Help?????

I'm not sure if this will help, but I have a 1980's era converter box in my garage and the fuses (If memory serves) were behind an access panel, inside the converter box itself.

Thanks. I'll pull the cover of my converter tomorrow and post the findings.

Thanks Gary. You were right. The converter box holds four 15 amp dc fuses and one was blown. The fuses were unmarked so no idea which goes where but if it's blown than it must be a bad one. I'll repost when I get a replacement with results.

Fuse update. Just replaced the blown fuse and the bathroom and hall lights came back on! Still no response from the furnace but have a service call in for repairs as needed. By the way after a better look in the converter box I found a fifth fuse which is labeled as filtered power for TV, CB, etc. Nice to know I have filtered power - now if I had a TV......

PS: In a year (or two) this TT will be for sale. I am currently using it for on site living at a house that I am renovating in NC. I live in NH in summer and work on my other house in warm(er) NC in winter. This Sunline is sure a sweet TT. Higher quality then most new brands.

yours is similar to mine. stay tuned, IF I ever get out to work on the coach I am doing a few modification projects - cooling fan and dual channel battery charger.

be advised: the 'filtered' dc output simply uses the battery as a capacitor. If you draw from this, you deduct what charging you are putting into the battery.

Partial success today. I found that there is an open in the thermostat circuit. Power on the red wire to the thermo but no power on the white return wire when the thermo switch is closed. I stripped the wires found in the cabinet over the stove and touched them together. Viola, fan came on and fired the furnace.

Should be easy to pull a new thermo wire set from the known good spot to the thermo which will fix that problem. I'll post final results when it happens.

I will from now on be known as the DPO. What we called some of the previous owners of old cars that I enjoy rebuilding. Cleaning up the wiring mess was usually a major chore.

I have heat!!! The furnace is working fine with the thermostat properly wired - just in a different place. Pulling the new wire through the ceiling using the old wires to pull on did not go as planned. Most of the way through the maze of ribs and whatever else lives in the ceiling the old wire broke!!! NOT going to remove the ceiling this winter to correctly wire so moved the thermo nearer to a good wire and there it will stay till spring. Ugly, but I am now warm thank you.

If anyone ever has, or will, remove the ceiling in one of these sunlines please post a photo of the hidden wiring. Would love to know where that "lost" wire got stuck.

Clark,
This was not an 80's model Sunline, but a 2004. It may give you a hint, of how wiring was routed.

Here's what it looked like, when we bought it...

This would sound funny if you saw the before pictures of the house I bought to renovate, but - whatever possessed you to buy that thing??? What a rebuild job that must have been!

And yes Gene, warm is much more important than beauty. I will however fix it correctly when it warms up a lot outside.

We did not buy it to restore it. We bought it for the parts. It took a while, but we got it done!

BTW: Even having been rolled and massive structural damage, it held up to our winter!

Here's one of our fifth wheel... The same day:

You're a real glutton for punishment. That snow is the reason I, and my TT spend the winters in NC. Last April when I returned to NH there was seven feet of snow in my driveway. Had to hire a bulldozer to clear it enough to allow a plow truck in to finish the job.
