Water pump turns on and off

I don't remember this water pump doing this when I first got the trailer almost 7 years ago. When a faucet is opened, the pump runs, shuts off, then comes on again, of, on, off, on etc. I think it used to run continuosly as long as the faucet was open. There is a small crack in the plastic housing that will leak sometimes but not always. Maybe it's pulling in air?
Any ideas?
Thanks,
Rich

I'm not an expert - but ours only seems to run on and off - unless we are running alot of water (which we try not to do when we are not at full hookups)

You say it's unusual. As a new trailer, mine ran on and off as long as a faucet was open which was normal until I installed an accumulator tank at 20 psi. Do you have an accumulator tank that maybe lost pressure? They do need to be checked and there is a "tire" valve to pump them up.

The waterpump will pump continuously with the valve open because the water flows and the pressure doesn't build ot turn the pump off. One thing that could cause the pump to cycle off and on when the faucets are wide open is a restriction of somekind in the line. perhaps a hose was kinked by pushing it or crimped by laying something on top of the hose. That would let the pump build to shutoff pressure even with the faucet wide open. Maybe a buildup of water deposits at the faucet.

If the pump shuts down/stops and stays off with the faucet turned off then the hoses are not leaking. Atleast on the pressure side of the pump.

Check the screens in all of your faucets they collect rust & dirt resticting the flow also check the water savers they clog up also.if you remove them run the water and see if the pump still cycles
