Wall lamp bulbs short service life ???

Anyone else notice the how short the life of the light bulbs, in the lamps on the walls, with the little lamp shade, don't have the number but could get it if necessary.

Anyone come up with an alternate bulb or fix to extend the life of them ?

Can't buy them at my local auto parts store and no RV places "near by" carry them either.

I set up a spot at home, electric cable etc, and use it to watch TV when others want to watch something else in the home.

My last bulb just burned out and i don't care to watch tv with the under cabinet lights on.

Any info appreciated.

I don't know the part number on your bulbs but I get replacements for mine in the auto section at Walmarts. These bulbs are not designed for particularly long life. They are typically auto bulbs designed for relative intermittant duty.

Mine are 1141LL, I think the LL stands for Long Life but....

Of course my rig is now 27 years old.

The 1141LL's that are in Norm's trailer are a low power version of a standard 1156 automotive bulb. Both bulbs look like this:


They are both standard BA-15 base bulbs. The main metal shaft of the bulb base is 15 mm (.59") in diameter.

There are several other automotive bulbs which have the same base and varying power levels. There are now a bunch of LED versions out that consume much less power and give off about the same amount of light.

If your local auto parts store can't help you with a standard item like an 1141 or 1156 bulb, it really is time to find another auto parts store that will help you.

Sunline1, it would be very helpful if you could pull one of the bulbs and give us the part number off the base and any other info that would help identify it. Your bulb may not be an 1141 like Norm's and if you really want some help in finding a replacement, let's make sure we've properly identified your bulb first.

FWIW, most RV's use either T-3, T-13, BA-15, or festoon base bulbs for interior lighting. Replacements can usually be found in almost any auto parts store, and there are now a wide range of LED replacements available on the internet and eBay.

Though I'm not 100% sure, the lights in question here I don't think take 1157's or similar. They take something smaller, and I think they take two of them as well.

These are the decorative lights on the wall by the couch. Only the longer non-slide trailers and all the SR's had them.

I just checked the Bulb # is "1076".

Guess I'll check with my local auto store.

Seams like I checked with a NAPA Auto parts store in Georigia, one time while traveling and was told they could order them.

Also bought them from Camper Choice once, I believe they have been bought out by Camping world ? Problem there is shipping i'm too cheap to spend several dollars for shipping on a few bulbs.

In my trailer I use incandescents only on those outlets that are used infrequently. Our primary bulbs are now LEDs. We also have 1156's.

I'm also certain that if you take your bulb to an auto part's store that you'll find what you want. LEDs are appropriate for high usage fixtures and will continue to get less expensive.

Our LED replacement goal was to increase our boondocking abilty because incandescents really hog the power.

We once looked at an Oliver and every light except one was an LED.

A quick google search on "1076 bulb" (without the quotes) yields hundreds of hits.

Ryder Fleet carries them if you have Ryder Truck outlet nearby.
Also, if you have any kind of truck parts places around, they may have them.

Camping World and many other online sources have them.

Interestingly, neither Autozone nor Advance Auto carry them, but NAPA does. Check a local NAPA store.

Average price seems to be about $2.40 each in the stores.

I also found a box of 10 on eBay for $3.89 plus $2.46 shipping which equals $0.64 each. I don't think shipping charges are much of an issue as this is about one quarter the price you'll pay over the counter per bulb.

Thanks for all the info.

Seams like ebay is probably the way to go, but i will do a little research over the phone locally just for kicks.

PS I called local NAPA auto parts store, they have them in stock $1.53 ea.
