TV/radio reception

For two years our TV and FM radio reception was excellent. I did a mod where the FM radio works off the crank'em up antenna and had its signal boosted. Now our reception is best described by the technical term "piss poor." The amplifier/booster is working because without it being on, we get zilch and I can hear a change in the radio's sound quality.
Since an antenna can't "wear out," what should I look for? Besides a loose connection somewhere between the antenna and the telly, is there another culprit lurking?

Thanks for any suggestions,
Teach

The coax is also the power cord remove the coax from the antenna head and check the voltage between the little wire inside and the metal on the connector. All though the antenna can't ware out the amp inside can go bad one of the biggest problems is corrosion . If the connector has power (it probably does) then the issue is the amp inside of the antenna.

Yes or close proximity. All the switch does is inject 12 volts to the cable to power the amp. Generally it's not the problem sad to say but that is the first thing to check. I put one of the flat ones on mine it is marginally better however it is a lot easier to find stations because it receives from both sides. It also uses a lot less hardware making it easier to raise and lower the antenna.

Hi Teach,

Mainah has you in already up and going in the right direction. This thread may help on what is inside the roof antenna that can burn out... The pics are good and may help, the thread is from a boo, boo.... A 12 foot door is still not enough for the antenna being up to go through.... http://www.sunlineclub.com/forums/f7...air-17639.html

Let us know what you find.

Thanks

John
