to vent or not to vent while camper is just sitting here

Just bought this 3 weeks ago, don't have a place to store it right now other than out in the open. We went from 39 degrees to 91 in just a few weeks.

concern:
if I seal it up tight, the heat can cause damage, warpage, moisture etc.

concerns:
bugs
rain
wind if I open the vent a little

If there is not a right answer, what is the best one in your opinion?
I have sprayed for bugs around it and have the bathroom vent cracked about a 1/2 inch right now.

Hi Tim and Karen,

We have MaxAir covers on all our vents.
I leave them fully open in the summer and ~1/2 open in the winter when ever we have the trailer in storage.

We've never had a problem with bugs or rain. The MaxAir covers do a good job of keeping the bugs and rain out.

If you don't have MaxAir covers, or something similar, over your vents, I would consider adding them. Then you can leave the vents open to allow air circulation.

Hope this helps.
Hutch

thank you for the reply, I intend to buy them and install.
Meantime, what is best? I have a growing list of things to do and not even sure where to put this on the priority list.

thanks,

We have MAxx Airs on our motorhome. We leave the vents open all summer. In the winter we close them because of snow.

The MaxxAir covers were the 1st thing we bought for ours. We leave the vents open all summer and have never had a problem with anything getting in.

I too have MaxAirs on my two vents. Leave them fully open in summer and about halfway in winter. Never had any problems.

We have Max Air vent covers.
We have left the vents opened a couple of inches, and we have left a jalousie window open about an inch on each side of our SOB coach.
Planning to do it similarly on the Sunline.
We may have to rethink that if/when we buy a cover.
Yes, we have had hornets' nests under the covers, but not very big ones. We have also had them under the front window rock shield. Also have had mud daubers plug the fresh water tank vent and bugs setting up shop in the water heater burner.
We now put a plug in the fresh water tank vent when we put the trailer in storage. The hot water burner is easy to blow out with compressed air, but we cover the vent for the furnace with tape.
It's worked well so far.

I also have the MaxxAir covers on the roof vents. In the summer months, we keep the roof vents open to try to keep the excess heat down. In winter, I close the vents and place a large damp rid unit in the trailer. So far, so good.

Same here too. I only take mine out a few times a year. But it never gets warm enough here to where heat buildup inside is a problem. And it never smells musty.

Now my father in law has a 70's 5th wheel that is closed up most of the year too and reeks of musty to high heaven. I can barely stand to be in it.

I guess I should have mentioned that despite being outside, the Sunline is protected from the majority of sun by the garage.
Although I have MaxAir covers, I'm sure that in a driving rain like we recently had, the Sunline would have been full of water if I had them open to vent the unit. This rain was so brutal that it came down sideways on the Sunline side of the garage and water was forced under the garage door. That never happened before.
I do vent the Sunline periodically throughout the Summer by leaving the doors and vents open on a nice sunny day. This is working for me since it still smells like new inside.
