Sunline staple size for aluminum siding. Any one know?
Does any one know what size staples Sunline used to staple on the siding to the TT?
Looking for width and length.
And if you do know, state what year camper this came from. I’m trying to line up all the supplies to fix my slide before I tear into it. And save me a trip to the store after I get the siding off. I'm guessing they are like 1/4" wide x 1” long?? Maybe 3/8 to most 1/2" wide?
Thanks
John

I'm not sure if these were used for siding, but thanks to Hutch & Mary, I know these were used somewhere in 2000 models:
http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-Duo-Fast-652...-/110495263245
They used the qty 2500 box though.
These do seem a little larger than I seem to remember were used. I'd say from memory, they'd be about 3/8" wide by maybe 1/4" or 3/8" deep.
Hopefully someone else who has pulled siding off can confirm.
With the older coaches, before the wrap around gold bottom, you would be able to see exposed staples along the bottom edge, where the aluminum wrapped around underneath.

H'mm yes now that you say it there where staples on the bottom. I still have a last chance to look for that size on the bottom. However do not know if they are the same as the ones holding the siding on. Sunline uses so many different stables all over there could be different ones. 1/4 or 3/8 deep does not sound like a lot of depth for the main siding but maybe. Will see what Gary can float back with.
Thanks for the tip.
John

Raining here too, but not as heavy as I think all of you have it. It was raining (very heavy- like 3") in Florida yesterday and then came back and it rained here overnight last night. Even lost power in Florida yesterday morning.

John,
I dug through my repair pictures and did some blowing up:
In the yellow circled area you can see a pair of original staple holes vs. the size of the staples I used.
Judging by that picture, and from memory, my siding was attached with 3/8" crown staples. I have a 1/4" crown stapler and a 1/2" crown stapler, but no 3/8", so I went with the 1/2". I would be worried about 1/4" pulling through the material too easily.
As for length, 1/2"-5/8" was about right. 5/8" is a size I keep at the house and it was inline with what I pulled out.
In most places you won't "need" that much length, but, in the corners, up to 3 layers of aluminum are stapled through, so it was needed there for sure.
Hope this helps.
- Frank

John,
All the siding staples on the 299 are 5/16" wide and 13/16" long...
Swim meet over!

Geesh John,
You don't have the right size stapler in your arsenal of tools ???? WOW, that shocks me. OH well, I guess you better head to Lowes

Never needed one any bigger then the one I bought, well 30 some years ago. The tool arsenal increases each time a new project requires the use of a different tool. That is how I justify doing all my own work. I get the reward of a new tool.
Already looked at Home Depot and Lowes sizing them up. But had no clue on what size. Ya know how many size air nailers and staplers there are now. ....
Since Gary swam the river and Frank zoomed in, I'm now armed to buy a new toy, Oh I mean new tool....
John
Gee, don't you have some new projects coming up?

John,
I used to do the same thing.
Justified buying the tools for the job by doing the work myself.
Then a funny thing happened. Many of the tools grew "legs" and walked away. Coincidentally I had teenage kids around at the time.
Do you think think that was just a coincidence?

Got a few 311 projects to do, but ground to soggy to get them done. Do plan to order LED cab lights for the '94 F-350 and some NERF bars (so I can get in without using my folding step stool) Gary has it running on his "flex-fuel" mixture and we need to get the bed rails installed so it will be ready to haul the 311. Hoping the rain is about done so I can put the slide out and putter around in the 311 getting a few things done. I thankfully was able to safely, completely remove the pictures from the walls that Sunline had installed (no sticky residue leftover either). Pretty near time for me to start loading things up for the summer. HUM, maybe a daytime project or two while Garys' at work

Kitty, What did you use to remove the photos and the two sided sticky tape. I have to do the same thing and have been looking for a good solution to remove both the picture frames and the residue without damaging the walls.
