Screens,again

I'm new at this forum and not sure how it works yet so I'll ask my
question again based on the answer I got the first time. I have a 1994
sunline saturn 22 foot travel trailer that I'm trying to remove the screen
from the front window on. The windows are square cornered and so are the
screens. the screens are on the inside. Any help?

Welcome to the group.

I haven't removed a screen in years, but "if' I recall correctly, there might be a small rubber tab on the bottom of the screen frame that permits you to grasp the tab and pull up on the screen to get it out, or you might just be able to gently put a butter knife under the frame and gently lift up and pull the screen inward.

I'm sure more of the guys will add info as they get a chance to log in and read todays posts.

While I don't have my camper here to go and take a look... I'm pretty sure it's the type of window that has a small screen insert attached directly to the inside aluminum window trim with swiveling lock tabs.

The lock tabs being released don't really seem to help the screen insert come out, they get stuck over the years because there's rarely a desire to remove it to a free flow of air and bugs. They also sometimes drilled the hole to wind/open the windows across the trim and the screen kinda fusing them together tight so the actual screen insert doesn't come out without bending stuff up.

The route I'd take...
On the inside of the camper, take off the window winder or whatever is going to stop the whole screen and trim from coming off.(usually a phillips screw P2) Carefully remove any plastic trim that might be covering the hex screws that hold the screen/trim in place. Remove all the hex screws along the border of the trim and the screen and trim should all come out together.

Now you can take a look at the backside and the screen spline and channel is exposed. Dig out the old spline and get rid of the damaged screen.

You can reuse the spline or get new materials at Lowes/Home Depot. You will want to spend the few dollars is costs to get a spline roller when you pick up your replacement screen and take a piece of the old spline along to match if you're going that route. The spline roller looks like a plastic pizza cutter with a rounded slot around the 'blade' where the spline fits into it when you're pressing the new screen in place. It makes it much easier than trying to tuck it with finger tips or a tool not specifically designed.

If you'd like help on the actually installation of the new screen into the channeling let me know and I can break it down for you...

If you don't want to tackle replacing the screen yourself you could probably take the whole piece to a door/window specialist and have them do the work.

I hope that helps a little.
Take care,
Lode

Hi Balch1947

I have been reading the responses, and if they do not seem to fit, well they may not as we do not know which type window you have. I my camper, a 2004, there are 2 types of screens and each remove different.

If you can take a pic of it and post, then we can help better even if we do not have your TT.

See if this helps any. On mine that have crank out windows like this

The screen has round wire type spring clips on the sides that you have to sort of pry the screen to the left or right and the screen lifts out.

On a double hung, like in the bath room or in our case in the back and side,

These are in a channel in the alum frame. The is a flat spring clip on the sides of the scrren to hold them in the channel. Push/pry the side of the screen into the channel deep enough to allow enough room to lift out and hop out the screen out other side channel

I hope this helps and it may not. If we could see your window type then someone can jump in and says, that is it how you do it.

Oh and Welcome to the club. Glad to have you with us.

John
