Question Replacing RV Blade Adapter

So this is probably the second time I have had to do this because of making a tight turn

I would like to just replace the whole cord with a longer one but that would require accessing those screws in the black junction box

So for now I will just replace the adapter. However, there are several to choice from. I believe mine is a 7 way

Here is one CURT

The 7 pin. How come it's getting damaged?

Joan,

Neither of the 2 you linked are intended to be spliced onto your 7 wire cord. The 2 you linked are adapters that change from either a 4 wire flat plug to a 7 wire round or a 6 wire round to a 7 wire round.

If what you want to do is, take off the old worn 7 wire plug on your old cable and put a new replacement 7 wire plug on the end, and stay in the Curt brand, this is the one

CURT 58140 Trailer-Side RV Blade 7-Way Trailer Wiring Harness Connector, 7-Pin Trailer Wiring

Hope this helps

John

It gets pulled out of the truck receptacle when/if I make sharp turns
For instance I had to go into a Redi-Care and drive into and through the parking lot to find a place to eventually park

After the 1st time this happened I made sure it was seated tightly but apparently it does not matter if your doing sharp turns or corners as the cord isn’t quite long enough and it pulls out

Its why I wanted to replace the cord with a longer one like this, its 8ft long instead of 6ft long

Well pretty much the only way in that case would be a new cord and plug. There is a tab (or should be) on the little hatch on the female socket on the TV it makes it harder to pull the plug out if it doesn't hold maybe the cord is an ok length and it's just being at the limit. It looks like your plug had a good case of road rash.

I’d look to see if anyone sells a short extension, say a foot to plug on to yours to keep it from happening. If the wire is pulled, pinched and cut, the results could be worse than what has been happening.

Can you reroute the wire to get more functional length?

Joan,

Is your cord secured to your A-Frame anyplace?
You may be able to change it location to gain a little more length.

I had to do that with our Sunline when we went with the Hensley Hitch.
There was slack in the cord between where is was attached to the A-Frame and the junction box. I moved where the cord was attached to be more of a straight line and took up the slack from the junction box. That gained me almost an extra foot of length.

Just a suggestion of something to look at.
Hope this is of some help.
Hutch

As Ted mentioned, here's a 7 pin extension cord:

I am thinking of removing this clip to where the cord is clipped to the frame and moving the cord and wires ( the other wires go to the brake check) and moving it up and clipping to the frt cross bar. Use a metal hose clamp and some heavy duty zip ties to secure it all

Yes, that will help.

If you do that there is some stuff call "split loom" it is a protective cover for automotive cables and goes on easily any good auto parts stores will have it in various sizes then tie it down with zip ties.

Yes that's it just a little extra protection for the cable. Hopefully that will give you just enough extra length to fix your problem.
