Hi,
Are your brakes totally shot, worn out? Many times cleaning them up and getting the parts to move allows them to still work.
If you can post a pic of the brake assembly, we may be able to confirm if you have the older Hayes brakes that have become obsolete. Some of these has the brake plate welded to the axle. Others had bolt on brake plates which had more hope on finding parts.
If the brake drum measures 8" on the brake shoe diameter, that is going to be hard to find parts for.
7" x 1 1/4" is still available, but I have not seen 8" unless another member found a source. 10" dia. is the next jump to the current day 3,500# axle.
If your brake linings are totally worn out, less then 1/16" shoe left, a brake shop that still does relining may help. As to the magnets and other parts, if you have the Hayes obsoleted ones, that is going to be hard to find. Some members have bought a new Dexter or other brand brake axle and changed the entire assembly.
Hope this helps
John
