Replacement canopy poles?

Boy, I have searched all over the web (or think I have...) and cannot for the life of me find replacement canopy poles for our '83 T-1550. Not hard to find new canopies, but they're in the $7-800+ range and bit out of the question for this year.

Any ideas? The ones I need the worst are the vertical ones with the stud on top that goes through the hole on the horizontal ones and into the end canopy roll. They just have given up the ghost. Boat n RV Warehouse says nobody makes that style anymore.

Any suggestions greatly appreciated!

Frank

Who makes some of those new canopies available now?

I was told today this system is not used anymore, but find that hard to believe. Nevertheless I can't seem to find any place on the web that sells these type poles. I hope to check with a major canvas/canopy/upholsterer in the area tomorrow. I sure wouldn't mind one of the new slick ones like most of you Sunliners have, but just can't afford it right now. Maybe later, like next year.

Thanks!

Frank

That picture looks like the awning poles for the awning I put on my Jayco popup years ago. I bought the awning from Camping World in the mid 90s. It was intended as an aftermarket add on and was in a zippered bag that slid into the track on most popups at the time. I think the awning was 10 feet long and rolled out (by hand) about 6 or 7 feet.

I just tried to search Camping World but their search feature is broke at the moment.

I was right near a Camping World (Bath NY) last Friday and took a wrong turn that took me the other direction. When I tried to turn around with my speedboat behind me on a rural road it didn't work, and frustrated, on I drove. Maybe I should give them a call tomorrow.

Thanks!

I found a few online called "Bag Awnings" that look like my old one but one site had a picture of the poles and it was totaly different.

That's crazy, the A&E Trimline is one of the most popular bag awnings for pop ups.

While you could get a whole new bag awning (looks to be around $300), you could probably get the pole kit and make it work with your fabric. However, I bet that wouldn't be far off cost wise from the entire new awning.

Another option could be to look for a cheap camping dining fly. Depending on the brand, it may have a pole that would work for you. I'm thinking one of the cheap ones with four poles that rely on the ropes and stakes to tie it off, not one with a folding inner frame.

Looks like they're made of aluminum; any chance they can be tig welded?

Not sure, may have to call them. Out horizontal poles come out with rubber feet on the trailer, along the side of the canopy where the hole on the end takes the stud from the vertical poles and goes in a hole in the roll up tube. They are both telescoping poles, but the vertical are two piece, the horizontal are an integrated single piece.

Gotta run, make lunch, get off to the dreaded workplace. Maybe I can retire in 5 or 6 years...
