Removing decal from rear of 2002 Sunline 1950

The decal was all torn up when I bought this trailer a few years ago. Someone else tried removing some of it and there is a small spot where it looks like some of the surface of the rear siding came off with the sticker. I peel away a little at a time, but I want to be careful with an aggressive removal. I do want to put a new decal on, she needs a refresh.

The rear and front siding materials are different than the side of the trailer materials, possibly more fragile. Other than a hair dryer or "Goo-Gone" is there something you have tried on yours that works well and is gentle to the more fragile rear exterior?

Thank you!

Hair dryer and 3M adhesive remover is the only thing I can think of that's gentler than goo gone. That's what I've used, and it generally won't hurt the paint. Since that metal is coated with Krystal Kote, the paint is pretty durable and I'm surprised some came off. Could be someone used something too strong on it, like Goof Off. That will take off paint.

This is all I've used for removing a decal on a Sunline. I've tried Goo Gone/Goof Off for removing tree sap and other stuff, but not decal adhesive.

This post may help. It talks about taking off the old and putting on the new decal as the thread progresses. Using a hair dryer and gently warming the decal will allow it to be able to flex and you can peel it off in most cases.

Actually the top rear siding, the top front siding and the camper sides siding are the same material. Aluminum siding painted white and Krystal Kote on them. However the top front and the top rear of the camper siding is formed different and may feel, more spongy. The sponge feel is due to what is behind the siding in wood structure and the way the siding is formed. It is not any more fragile than the camper sides, a rock dent will ding it the same and cleaner will clean the same or if too strong, will harm it the same. The top front and rear can flex more, especially the front top, when you push on it then the sides but this is due to the wall structure behind it being different.

I have not used goo gone on the siding so I cannot speak to if it has a problem. To get residual glue off, rubbing alcohol, naphtha, lacquer thinner, and 3M general purpose adhesive remover no 08984 I have used and they do not harm the paint.

Do "not" use acetone as it will take the paint off right to shiny silver...

Your front decal, is that not on the fiberglass rock guard cover? If it is, the same methods apply in removing the decal.

Hope this helps

John

Thanks to you both! I will buy some of that 3M adhesive remover today! I can't wait to finish giving the trailer its facelift!

Harbor Freight has a real heat gun for about $14 it makes a lot of heat I have used it to remove large damaged decals from snow machines makes life real easy not only do they become pliable they shrink up too.
