Question Question about Hot Water Heater

In my "96" T2650 I have a issue with the hot water heater. We turned the power on, have the water hooked up, flipped the switch under the bed to on. But only get hot water for a couple of seconds then it goes cold again. Tonight we opened the outside cover and looked at it and there is a switch above the dial for the propane. Which direction does this need to go? We are assuming that this is to set the temp of the water but there is nothing wrote on anything to say which way to move the switch? Does anyone have any ideas. Our first outing is this weekend so hoping to have hot water. Thanks for any help.
Amy

First thought. Is your by-pass in the proper position to fill the tank? With pressure off, open the drain to make sure there's water in the tank.

Thanks for the suggestion. Finally figured it out Friday. There was water in the tank and the tank was working because the pressure relief valve had hot water when I opened it up. So that then told me we had missed a by pass valve some where. Located it after setting up camp. Every thing worked great. Had a real good time after it quit raining. Looking forward to our next outing.
