Putty tape vs. butyl tape

Would anyone know what specific type/manufacturer of tape was used to seal the outside corner trim on a 2007 T-2499 Sunline? I'm not sure how important it is to get the same type to do a partial replacement but the original has held up very well on a unit that has been outdoors all of its life.

Thanks,
Joe

Welcome to forum. Questions are welcome and answered. No question to dumb, We've all been there.

As to your question, Definitely butyl tape. It don't dry out like putty tape, remains pliable for years. . It's very important to seal corners very well. Corners are a prime area for leakage. Butyl is inexpensive, available on line or an rv dealer. I always keep a roll in my trailer

I went that same route last year when I was in the process of fixing a leak. One of my goals was to restore and keep things as original as possible. I then used putty which a good job. The I decided to use Butyl on another exterior repair. Butyl cost a little more but worth it. I find that butyl even applies better and seems to seal better than putty.

Looking at my previous TT projects I am half tempted to remove components remove putty and reapply with butyl. (I said half tempted )

That will be a good test. In a few years you can see if the putty is holding up and sealing as well.

Thanks Jim and Jerry. I am somewhat concerned that the butyl tape I pick up at an RV store may not co-exist happily with whatever Sunline used but I will experiment and keep my eye on it. Hate to disturb the remaining three quarters of the trim but if it doesn't hold well where they combine I will disassemble all of the trim and start from scratch with butyl.

Thanks for the replies,
Joe

Unless someone has changed it over the years Sunline used butyl. There are different thicknesses, widths and colors of butyl tape. I've also seen butyl in caulk form.
