Over bed reading lights...

Over bed fixtures in our 2006 T-1950 don't work (the bullet style as seen under the cabinets in the the first photo of Tweety's wardrobe mod thread: http://www.sunlineclub.com/forums/f6...mod-13285.html).

I pulled one apart and it is the actual push button switch on the unit. Is this a problem multiple folks have had? Seems odd that both of mine would fail (I have not pulled the second one apart to check the switch). I plan to replace the switch if I can find one easily locally.

Tod

Glad to hear that you haven't had a problem. Bulb is good. The fact that the bulb was good and the lamp holder had no juice had me thinking the 12V supply was bad, but it is the switch on the fixture for sure, I have no continuity in either switch position.

Tod,

Have not had an issue with the switch but odds are high they are cheap import plastic.

Radio Schack may have a replacement or even NAPA or other auto parts stores. There is nothing really special about the switch. Take the old one with you as the hole size may be the bigger issue.

If you come up totally dry on finding a switch let us know. I'll hunt on line to help. I know they make them or they use to anyway...LOL

Good luck.

John

Thanks John, my expectation is that the switch will be pretty easy to find, Radio shack was going to be my first try. To fit under the escutcheon, the body of the switch is quite small compared to similar (probably one reason it broke). If I can't find a switch I may replace the fixture with an LED type, since the BA15 LED spotlight to replace it is one of the more expensive bulbs in LED. I'd almost rather just replace the whole thing.

Mainly, I was just curious if other folks had problems witht the switch, since it appears I have 2 bad ones.

Tod,

H'mm thinking about this it may be a usage thing as well. I know from taking one apart to check the wiring the switch is well, cheap.

In our case I only turn that light on maybe 4 times a year. DW uses her's more as she reads in bed but she has a book light too and does not use it all the time.

If someone uses that light a lot, odds are higher it will break faster. It is not a very heavy rated switch at least the ones in my 2004. The older TT's may have been made with a better switch as they did not make cheap so much way back when.

Yes I agree those flood light blubs in LED are way high. I bought 4 of them. Took me 3 years to convert the entire inside of the camper but it is now done. In hind sight the cost of the 4 bulbs may have bought 3 new fixtures of a different type. Never thought of that.

Thanks

John

I'm almost converted to LEDs, but I can't stomach the price on that flood replacement, since neither Jen or I read in bed much. I'm keeping my eye open for an inexpensive LED fixture that I like the look of to replace the bullet/floods. Either way, it is an inexpensive fix (unless I put LEDs in the origional fixture).

I need 6 more LEDs to have the whole thing LED minus the two over bed reading lights and the range vent light.

As an aside, I'm surprised that the range vent doesn't exhaust outside.

Are there pictures of bulb to LED conversions? I looked at the LEDs and see different styles and haven't wanted to spend a butt load of money to upgrade. Especially when I would probably buy the wrong fixture.

I have the wedge style (W9.RV3N) throughout the camper and they are $13 for a 200 lumen light, which is brighter than the incandescents (or at least appears to be). I like the paddle style that puts 100% of the light in one direction.

There are less expensive LEDs out there, but the color on these are great and I really like them. There are tons of options, styles and manufacturers, colors, and lumens from different web sites. For me it got to the point that I went with these guys because they got good reviews for lumens, color and construction and they had every type I needed (but not too many choices to confuse me). Many othere here have done the conversions from what I've seen as well, so there is a lot of experiance here.

I'll also say that I've spent an embarassing amount of money to make the switch to LEDs, but I try not to add it up.

Thanks Tod. I'll try not to add it up either, LOL!

I did see a ceiling mount complete fixture that I think I'll replace the old fixtures with. I have a old fluorescent fixture that causes static on the radio so it will go out first thing.

Tod,

Where did you get yours? Mine are only 98 lumens on the warm white color

I bought mine at Super Bright LEDS Super Bright Wedge Base

Thanks

John

John, I got mine from prudentrver: http://www.prudentrver.com/ledlamps.html

Looking at the pictures of yours and mine, I'd say that they are the same unit, but I don't know about the lumen difference (i.e, 100 vs. 200 is a lot). I don't have a way to measure lumens, that would be nice. Mine are brighter, or appear much brighter, than the standard incandescent. The color rendering is very much warm white, I don't think anyone would get in the coach and think twice about the color and they would assume it was incandescent not leds.

I'm always suspicious of all these internet places, just buying the same stuff, marketing it different and charging prices all over the place. Whatever the lumens (100 or 200), they appear to be a fine price.

Tod,

H'mm your pulls a little more power, 240 ma where mine is rated at 195 ma.

Yours has this blurb

Quote:
-- HyBright LED chips
The nexLED technology is built around the use of the HyBright LED chip, a flat, surface-mount, semiconductor chip that holds from one or more LED emitter sites. This chip is much more rugged than the previous generation of LEDs, and also provides more light lumens in a small area and per watt of power. A key is finding the right mix of phosphor for the re-emitting surface to provide the proper color temperature.
Maybe yours is the next generation technology. And for a buck cheaper.

A 100 lumen is a big difference. When I was looking that was the rating I needed to at least be close to or I would keep looking. Mine are rated 95 lumens and they work well. They are not as bright as the 924 bulbs but they are good.

I may try your brand when I order a few more. I need about 3 more. I can then compare side by side.

I hope these bulbs are the last ones I ever have to buy... If they last like they say they do they may be a life time... and then some.

Thanks for posting. Picked up a new tip,.

John
