Outside Door Catch - ok it doesn't!
On our sunline we have outside door catches that are posts (camper) that fit into a small 1/2 ball receiver (door) --- well the main door catch is so loose the slightest breeze just closes the door.
Plus the rear door post is slightly bent as well - i walked right into it
I was looking for a replacement of either (1) the small 1/2 ball, or (2) the entire thing.
I picked up two catches:
- the first is silver post and rubber catch - similar to what is on the trailer now - of course the screws don't line up but not sure i want to get into the same thing
- i also picked up a plastic lever catch - similar to what they seem to be using on most RV nows - the screw holes on the trailer match however it doesn't complely cover the mark where the orginal was and well looks like crap (kinda) - plus works on the front door and well not so easy for the rear door (ugh!)
So far I have done nothing to fix the problem as I cannot decide what to do.
Question - has anyone:
> found a replacement 1/2 ball catch and if so, where?
> replaced the entire thing and what did you do?
thanks!

I replaced the entire thing with a spring-loaded catch arm mounted to the trailer and a receiver on the door.

Teach,
That is what I have on my utility building door. Simple, effective, cheap and out of the way. Couldn't ask for a better replacement and will use that if/when needed.

Are you talking about the round plastic knob on the door that the metal post locks into?
If so I have found the plastic knobs on the door finally..... I just bought several of them over the weekend as mine became weak and would not hold either. I was using 1 wrap of duct tape on the post to make it bigger but it would only last about a month and then needed new tape again. The new knob works great like it use to. Just push the door into the post and it stays shut and then yak and out it comes.
If it is the plastic knob your after, let me know I'll look up the place I bought them from and post.

John:
yes that is it - the white plastic knob -- if you know the place I would greatly appreciate having the information - i would also order several as we plan to keep this trailer for a bit.
Thanks!

prrecorguy, I'm currently down in Elkhart IN. When I was here last year, I found this part in Bontragers RV surplus and had purchased several which I subsequently gave/sold to other Sunline owners. Since I am currently back in the area, I purchased major supply of them. IIRC you are near me in Ontario, so when I get back next week, I can send you a PM and we can arrange to meet somewhere and I can get you a couple these parts.

Yes Trailblazer (Bill) and Frank (his screen name) put me onto these guys last year and I was just there a week ago. The round plastic knob sells for $0.50 each if you walk in the door. To have them shipped will cost for the shipping so buy a spare or two. They had about 25 to 30 of them left a week ago. I'm sure they may know where to get more too.
They sell on Ebay as well Bontragers RV Surplus items - Get great deals on RV Camper Accessories, Automotive Boat Accessories items on eBay Stores!
Their web site is down the last I tried to get in but there are other sites that list their contact info like here Bontrager's Surplus Inc - RVDA RV Dealers Marketplace
This is their main site. It is still down and I called them and they know it's down trying to get it back up.
http://www.bontragers.com/
They have a pile of stuff there. If you call they may understand it by description or email them a pic.
John
