Oh boy, found another problem to deal with

Why, oh why. Why do I have a warm spot in my heart for this trailer. Just when I get the black tank repaired and reinstalled(boy was that fun). So I was laying there on my back finishing installing the belly panel, getting the caulking gun ready to seal around the perimeter and took a look toward the new shiney Uniroyals I had just installed. I almost gasp in disbelief at what I saw. These tires came with raised white lettering that I had installed on the inside. I see a white circle running around the sidewall of the right front tire. What in the "h" is that???? Well upon investigation I learn. The shock absorber has been rubbing the sidewall. These new tires are the same size as the stock rubber, how could this happen? Taking measurements, the axles appear to be equally spaced from the frame, hardware intact. For some reason the tires are not spaced the sam, side to side. Nothing appears bent, broken. I will have to further investigate, winter project. For now I removed the shock, trimmed back the upper shock mount to give clearance for the tire. The shock was froze, piston stuck in bore. It also appeared the piston was bent maybe from a hard pothole hit. Tire not too bad, will continue running it, only has maybe 100 miles on the tread. If this keeps up, I can see a new Jayco in the driveway, soon.

Hang in there Capt’in

Sorry to hear about your tire shock burn. I had to put on 5 new 18” tires on the F350 a week ago. DW was on the way to Grandkids house and my front right tire had a close encounter with the town temporary drain grate………. However I was in the 54,000 miles range and the spare was not much better. So for towing….well out can the wallet…

Try and look at it like this. The shock froze up, not good, but it happened when you had time to deal with it verses out on the road and it could of buckled and went thru the tire. I know this does not help you feel much better, but it was the way I had to look at my 5 new tires 1 day before a 400 miles trip one way to the Buttonwood M & G. If I didn’t look a it that way, I’d still be crying…..and thank full it happen then and not on the road.

The Jayco, they are a good unit, but they are not headache free either. All brands have issues. Some more then others. Hang in there, you are one of the unique ones here with one of those beautiful Sunline 5 ers.
