what brand furnace is it? pilot or dsi (direct spark ignition)
will the fan start - blow cold, or nothing

on any controled by t-stat. common issue is the TWO contact points
1, the temp points, 2, the on off switch. If the fan won't start you can just jump the two wires together, to bypass t-stat. also one of them should have 12 vdc
the fan must start to control the heat, a sail swicth moves with enough air flow ( low battery voltage protection ) then 12vdc goes thru a high temp limet switch to pcb or pilot / main gas valve

Some thing should happen with the thermostat on at least a fan, may not heat but some thing should happen as WASA said twist the wires together and see what happens. If you get nothing then a fuse check and a volt meter is next.
