Need help FAST!

Hi Guys and Gals..As some of you may know, my DH has dementia and last week left the bathroom sink faucets on while he hooked up the hose outside!!! We flooded up through the tub onto the bath floor and partway thru the kitchen area. Now there is water in the underbelly..I have cut about a 12 inch opening and pulled out sopping insulation..I don't know how far it extends nor how to repair if I open up the belly..Is there a mending tape available? Should I try and open it more and pull out more insulation?I can't get in there to do any drying without opening more. Most of what I pulled out is under the furnace..should I remove that? I really can't afford to take it somewhere at todays prices and I am very handy..I just need some guidance as to the best approach. Thanks in advance...Janalee

Well,I went back out to do some more worrying..ha..and opened it up some more..I think I have most of the wet stuff pulled out.My arms and hands are raw--it's hell to be 71 yrs old! In hindsight, I should have unstapled the siding and eased the underbelly material down..maybe..but I will just have to find a way to repair this opening once it has dried out well in there. I am planning on sticking in the hose from my old vacuum cleaner for awhile if it ever gets warm here..cold today in NE Pa. In the meantime, I opened the access panel under the tub and it is all very dry there--ditto for under the kitchen cabinets..wonder how that much got into the belly and coming out the bottom edge when we were aware of it!! Now--big question..will a good tarp material work for a patch? Does anyone have a piece of underbelly material about 3 1/2 ft long or so and maybe 18 in. wide? I could just tape it closed if I knew what kind to use..I cut it very carefully.I am thinking maybe awning repair tape!!! Lots of it!

Sorry to hear about the mishap but it sounds like you did the right thing quickly to minimize the damage.

There is a tape to repair the underbelly but I don't remember at the moment what it is. John and mabe so others posted it quite some time back. At the moment my "photographic memory" is out of film but I will look. Hang in there and let it all get dry.

Here is a thread that may help:
http://www.sunlineclub.com/forums/f7...air-13251.html It has some good pictures too.

In Post #2 John repaired his Darco fabric with Flex Mend and in Post #9 beecrazy used Nashua flashing tape from Home Depot.

As far as unstapling fabric, it extends up the side wall 6 to 8 inches. Other forums I have read Gorilla tape works just fine and is cheaper than underbelly tape

Thanks fellas! i knew I could count on you for some fast help/adice! I did get the flashing tape but....75 yd roll is overkill..and the company really was not sure about it adhering to the material...so i am going to try the Gorilla tape. It now comes in a 3 in wide roll so off I go to get some! Thanks again!

I have never bought from these folks, but they offer the mending tape and the wider selection of material.

Underbelly and Vapor Barriers: Mobile Home Depot

If you have a mobile home supply store near you they have the Flex mend tape.

This is the site I did buy from. They have a 4" x 25' role Flexmend Belly Tape | Mobile Home Repair

The Gorilla tape will work for short term and is a good quick option. The Flex mend bonds permanently and once heated (warmed actually) is not coming off. The Gorilla tape may break down after a few years pending the bond that was created. It is however by far the best in the duct tape type of material world for this. The regular duct tape is real temporary.

Hope this helps

John

If you used the Gorilla tape to get you going and are following up long term with the Flex Mend, you may need to use alcohol or something to get any residual adhesive off before putting the Flex mend on.

If and when you get some Flex Mend, let us know the source. Always on the look out for this kind of stuff. I had a heck of a time finding what product to use a few years ago. Seems the web sales have now increased.

Good luck

John

Thanks for the lead. Here is a clicky MHRVDIRECT.COM

They have a good supply of the right stuff. I wish they would of included an actual address and phone number to call and talk to them. Makes me a little nervous them not identifying who they are.

Let us know how you make out.

Thanks

John

JohnB....the FlexMend people said that they are a bona -fide distributor of their products..You CAN get it even cheaper on Ebay with free shipping but the guy said some are knock offs..the s/h price is high...$19.00 for two rolls that only cost $6.00 EACH...I ordered it but then wrote back to cancel because of that and if they do accept my cancellation,I will take my chances on Ebay..

PostScript to last message! The company contacted me today and said a mistake had been made in my shipping price (probably due to the fact I changed my online order to 2 rolls of tape) and I had been charged two shipping prices..they have offered an adjustment which I have accepted.
